I've become increasingly aware of audio fidelity and this has made me fussy as to what I hear my music from. I thought I would upgrade my acceptable ipod classic earphones to something will more "isolation" from outside noise.

Put simply, the sound from these is incredible. After some testing, I found the largest ear-buds to be most effective at blocking outside noise and having a comfortable fit. This surprised me as I actually have small ear canals. But I guess what is important here when you use the silicone adapters is the outer ear, which needs to be as filled as possible.

Bass is deep and rumbling. Voices are clear. I wasn't shocked at the sound quality instantly, then realised it was because these earphones were producing in my head, what my Creative T20 speakers were producing on my laptop. I tried my old apple ipod headphones and noticed a lot of roughness and non-existant bass. Switching between the two made the CX95 sound incredible. It can REALLY handle all types of music. From Kanye West's late registration it controls the low bass, and with classical music, you can hear every instrument even at the very low volumes. For instance with Danny Elfmans Batman theme, the beginning 30 seconds is near inaudible on ipod earphones unless in a quiet quiet room. Hear the beginning can be heard without any volume adjustments throughout the whole track as I often need to do with classical music.
New music will unexpected effects such as gunshots may even make you jump as it did to me.

What others have said about the volume is correct. With my ipod earphones. I find myself turning up to 75% to hear my music. With these, I turn it down to about 40-50%. That's loud enough.

Finally the cabling. There have been many complaints, but I've found the cabling perfect! It's not too thin, and is quite wearing. It's short at about 60cm, but this makes it perfect for my usage. Inside a side jacket pocket or connected to a games console such as the psp. I dislike the "pull" you get from mp3 players in your trouser pocket, thus I never use it there. The short length means it rarely gets tangled or becomes unwieldy li.

Bear in mind the supplied case can only hold the main earphones and not the 1m extension provided for those that want more length. I do agree that this extension should only be about 60cm more itself to make the cable size similar to others on the market that are usually 1m or so.

Firstly, let me say that for sound quality, for less than £100, these earphones are awesome... Living in the UK, I use these regularly with my phone via an adaptor and with my Vaio SZ laptop.

The cable length is ideal for using with the laptop on the desk. With the phone, I don't have any snags with it as I keep it in my jacket pocket. But for those wanting to keep their ipod etc in their trouser pocket I can see these would be a bit of a snag. Poor decision that hampers an otherwise ideal set of headphones. In addition, as a previous reviewer mentioned, these headphones suffer a bit from cable induced noise on the move. I personally don't recommend these for gym bunnies, but for the commute, or just enjoying brilliant sound, they're the best!

They were surprisingly brilliant when I first used them, my last headphones were the Sennheiser CX300's and they were good no doubt but these headphones are special. I was very surprised by how crisp and full the sound was for sub-£100 piece of kit. I can highly recommend these.

I thought i would upgrade my earphones after useing my v-moda vibes for a year now. And what a let down, the sound just isnt as clear as the vibes and the bass doesnt sound as good either. The extension cord weighs the earphones down and thn clip always falls off. Apart form this, i admit the noice isolation is the best i ahve ever used, but this just doesnt make up for the poor sound. If you want a good all rounder, use V-moda bass freq of V-moda Vibe.

Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5 Superb step up from he CX300s, 2009-01-01
After shopping around for ages, I decided against the CX400 and CX500, the difference in price did not match the step up in sound quality from the legendary CX300s. Like the PX100s, Sennheiser had created a product which produced fantastic quality for a superb low price - and then failed to improve on themselves with subsequent models. CX300 and PX100 are without doubt kings of their price brackets and compete well with the higher leagues.

I think in the CX95s they've done it again, a pretty big step up in price from the CX300s but they're the best you will get under £100. CX95 could very well be considered the next legendary Sennheisers.

However - I believe they've been discontinued in favour of Sennheiser's new marketing strategy (each product sits in a stream i.e. Style, Street, Classic, Sport etc)

It seems the CX95 were succeeded by the CX550 Style, so if you want the absolute latest ones, go for those, I couldn't find them in stock for a decent price anywhere so I plumped for the CX95s, my reasoning being they'll be almost identical, but cheaper as its a discontinued line. There may be a few improvements in the CX550 but for my needs the only difference is the latest branding and a higher price.

Needless to say these are fantastic quality. The cable is longer than I'd like with the extension but I think using the included clip should help me get around that. I think I would have preferred an asymmetrical cable too but I'm sure its just a case of adapting my habits.

They are ridiculously comfortable, I forget they're there. Incredibly light yet they fit snugly and don't come out even if I tug the cables down (they will of course come out if I tug them towards the left/right).

I love the clarity, I have yet to burn them in properly, apparently they need a lot of playtime to really blossom but they do sound brilliant from the get go. I've tried some Shure's and they sounded strange to me, I love the Sennheiser sound so I was right at home with these.

For anyone looking to step up from CX300s without going overboard I would definitely recommend these or the CX550s - whichever you can find in stock really. The only negative is the cable length, but that's going to be a problem for any product which tries to accommodate extensions, I'm sure if I decide to go jogging and put my ipod in an armband I will appreciate the ability to remove the extension.
