Good value for money, reliable, but needs more RAM, 2008-12-13
I purchased one of these about 9 months ago for my family to use, as the old PC had packed up. This model offers fantastic value for money, and has had no reliability problems as yet. The screen is crisp and bright, but personally I would have preferred it didn't have such a glossy finish to it. It runs vista fine, has enough power to be responsive, but its essential you upgrade the RAM if you plan to keep Vista. 1GB isn't enough, 2GB should be considered the minimum. I paid £330 with free delivery for this laptop, and consider that excellent value for money.
Only thing I will say, its obviously very big and weighs more than I'd want to carry around every day. If you want to keep your laptop with you, look at getting a smaller model, or a netbook like the EEE PC.
Great laptop shame about the Vista, 2008-09-18
Having recently purchased one of these from Amazon I am able to offer the following comments.
This is a great value for money laptop, the display is particularly impressive.
The only reason it gets 4 stars rather than five is the garbage known as Microsoft Vista Home Premium software which Acer in their wisdom chose to install on it.No one forced them to do so therefore they are responsible for the 4 out of 5 rating.
If you get one do yourself a favour and upgrade to Windows 98
Better still Windows 2000 or XP.
Only buy if you plan to fit more RAM, 2008-12-10
4gb of ram is about £40 on ebay, buy this one cheap on amazon and add RAM for a decent machine. Comes with Vista but then the fact Vista sucks is nothing to do with the machine. Great Screen, really good value too.
