Product Description
EVOKE-1S is the third generation of the iconic EVOKE family of DAB digital radios, and delivers a host of new features and improvements over its predecessors. Weve added more station presets, an auxiliary input for your iPod or MiniDisc player, PUREs revolutionary Intellitext® and textSCANTM and FM with RDS for areas with reduced DAB coverage. EVOKE-1S is also ChargePAK® Ready. The optional in-unit rechargeable ChargePAK gives up to 24 hours of portable listening between charges, so you can enjoy your favourite stations wherever you want. A striking new OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) display offers crystal-clear readability from any angle, and manual or automatic brightness control for optimum clarity. Of course weve kept all of the features that made EVOKE-1XT a multiple-award winner, including class-leading audio, an easy-to-use kitchen timer, USB upgradability, an optional stereo speaker and real maple or cherry veneer casework. All PURE EcoPlusTM products are designed and manufactured to minimise power consumption in operation, and to achieve market-leading standby power consumption. EVOKE-1S is a member of the PURE EcoPlus product family. All EcoPlus products are designed and manufactured to minimise their environmental impact, with:
- Reduced power consumption (see end panel)
- Use of materials from recycled and sustainable sources
- Optimum packaging size for transport efficiency
- Selection of components with minimised environmental impact

I would give it 0 stars if I could, 2008-01-31 I am truly disappointed with this, the sound quality is terrible. If you turn it up the distortion is really bad. The build quality seems good but when you look a little closer mine is inset crokedly. I brought the stereo speaker and chargepak with itso it all came to around £160.00 (not from Amazon), I am taking it all back today. The Dualit radio is far superior for sound my only problem with it is the position of the display thus I have already taken this back too. I am unable to find a DAB to suit (want one with Aux in and battery pack so I can take it in the garden). The plus side for this unit is probably only the charge pak does keep its charge for a very long time.
Not bad, but overpriced and unreliable, 2008-10-21 I have been using this model now for seven months, and apart from only getting about fifteen channels, when I thought I would get dozens as it's digital I am still quite pleased with it.But what really made me sit down and write this review is that I had to send it back today as it started playing up which does happen, (but you do get a two year warranty).Unfortunately you have to send it back to pure at your expense which is not cheap as you need to insure it as well for peace of mind. If you buy it from amazon like I did they will only exchange it within six months after which you will have to send it back to pure. Bear that in mind if you are buying one (it's a lot easier taking it back to a local store) under pures two year warranty.
Overpriced rubbish., 2008-02-01 Very disappointed with this radio. Build quality is poor with the radio not inset to the wooden frame correctly and the sound quality is appalling. I can only liken it to listening to a normal radio with a pillow over the speaker. My old Sony FM radio knocks spots off this radio so back to Amazon it goes. Unfortunately, I was also bought the Chargepak for this radio as a Christmas present and I am unable to return this to John Lewis as more than 28 days have elapsed. Arghhh!
No "Snooze" facility, 2008-03-21 Do I mean "Snooze facility"? I want to fall asleep at night listening to the radio and have it turn itself off after about an hour when I'm safely in the land of Nod. Not much to ask - many cheaper radios have this facility, but not the Evoke-1S. How stupid is that? The sound quality is not great, even on DAB, and there is no Tone control on this model to sharpen up the sound so it sounds quite fluffy. I'm returning it to Amazon
So good I bought another, 2008-06-19 I bought one of these for my mother who lives out in the sticks where FM signal is poor. I knew that DAB signal was good as I have a set in my car which works well. She wasn't disappointed! She uses it mainly for Radio 4 and the sound fills a quite substantial kitchen, the controls are very easy to use - the simplicity for her was the killer app!
So a couple of months later, the backlight failed on my kitchen DAB, (not a Pure) so the ideal replacement.
