Comment: I bought one of these 1.5 litre slow cookers because I live on my own and cannot be bothered cooking when I come in from work. I enjoy making casseroles, but find them a bit time consuming if done the normal way with pots and an oven.

Initially, it was a bit of a pain getting up extra early in the morning to peel, wash & chop the vegetables and fry (brown) the meat. I then read a slow cooker book by Sara Lewis who suggested that everything is prepared the evening before using a food processor and stored in the fridge overnight, throwing everything into the slow cooker in the morning without bothering to brown the meat. I also find an Oxo in hot water is simpler than bothering with actual stock.

The good part is that it makes a very good meal for one person, especially if you cook some mashed potatoes to go with it when you get in from work. Dumplings are great if placed on top of the casserole in the slow cooker when you get home from work and left for twenty minutes or so.

The bad part is that if you fill it more than two thirds full, it will overflow during the day and the liquid will run inside the heated part and burn itself to the metal. The liquid will also run all over the counter top - you may need to put a couple of sheets of kitchen roll underneath the slow cooker if you have put a lot of liquid in. It does this even quicker if put on high.

Altogether an excellent buy and much better than trying to fill a 3.5 litre slow cooker and hoping the casserole doesn't weld itself to the bottom of the pot.
