Amazon.co.uk Review Racking up impressive box office numbers right across the globe, the arrival of The Simpsons Movie onto the big screen proved, for many, to be more than worth the wait. But with its DVD release, there’s a compelling argument that Springfield’s finest have come back to their natural home. The film itself is primarily Homer-centred, with the head of The Simpsons family seemingly consigning Springfield to certain doom when he dumps his waste where he shouldn’t. But, in the true spirit of the show, the plot takes a relative back seat to the antics of America’s first family. And it’s those antics that offer the film’s gold. As you’d hope, it boasts several laugh-out-loud moments, from visual gags (the rock and hard place being a favourite) through to the by-now infamous Spider-pig. There’s not quite enough material to keep the chuckle counter going for the full duration of The Simpsons Movie, and the criticism that it’s effectively three episodes strung together has some truth to it. But you’d still be hard-pushed to complain for one key reason: The Simpsons Movie is grand entertainment, with plenty of rewatch potential. So while you can add us to the queue of people who wanted more Mr Burns, and while it doesn’t quite measure up to some of the show’s best episodes, The Simpsons Movie still delivers, and does it with some quality. And Spider-pig is a work of genius…--Jon Foster

The Simpsons, 2008-12-12 I think this movie is AMAZING!! because it has everything you want...
Spider pig, New characters!
Well worth waiting for!
a simpsons fan film, 2008-10-26 me and my sister went to see this in cinemas and i certainly enjoyed watching it.the simpsons have gotten better over the years with all their episodes and treehouse of horror shorts and this is the biggest hit of all.i laughed hard at some parts and it was a genius film.the graphics were good, the acting was superb and it featured some action in it.as a fan of the simpsons i am glad i saw this.
its a great animated movie and adventure and its popularity has impressed too.futurama may be good but the problem is it dos,ent have futurama the movie in cinemas.the reason i gave this a five star rating is because of all the simpsons charecters and the great scene where it shows itchy and scratchy.i dont understand why some people have rated it 2,3 or 1 star.simpsons fans will surely enjoy it as much as i did.i also got it for DVD
Occasionaly funny but lacking the cutting edge of TV, 2009-01-06 Homer Simpson ignores the no dumping in the lake policy and soon he and his family are on the run after Springfield is declared hazardous and placed under a dome.
The yellow American family come to the big screen in one of the most anticipated films of 2007. Despite being up against Transformers, Bourne Ultimatum and Harry Potter the order of the phoenix, the Simpsons Movie still grossed millions all over the globe thanks to its massive fan base and the show itself has now become legendary.
The Simpsons has become bigger than any other TV show and has been showing now for almost 20 years and with all the DVDs, specials and a collection of merchandise that will never end, a film was inevitable.
Sadly the show has hit a slump these last 5 or so years with unfunny parodies of celebrities, predictable slapstick humour and a meaningless narrative.
This picture uses the TV show's recent trends to get its entertainment across. There is plenty of obvious humour such as an Arnold Schwarzenegger President, Lisa's love life and a typical and frankly boring villain.
What is good however is Matt Groening's depiction of real life. He uses real life issues and puts a good spin around them such as advertisement, nudity and a collection of others in the end credits.
Homer's opening line is typical mocking of film life.
Though this film's ultimate goal is to entertain, it is a feel good hour and a half joy ride with occasional moments of old classic Simpsons but majorly lacking a cutting edge style to surprise and shock.
This feels like a stretched episode which you don't get for free. The plot feels ordinary in every sense and the only difference from a normal episode is that these jokes about films make it different from normal sofa views.
If you are currently enjoying current series then you will not be disappointed but if you remember the days when the Simpsons really entertained through a sophisticated story, unsurprising hilarity and a group of real life characters we could all relate to then I am sorry to say this film doesn't have anything to bring that back.
The Simpsons Movie is moderately enjoyable at times, but always predictable with an occasional film joke that was only funny in the cinema.
6/10
Big Dissapointment!, 2009-01-01 The Simpsons movie was a big let down. There was too much hype and the movie couldnt live up to its expectations. And what annoyed me was that all of the comedy was shown already in the advertisements and trailers, so nothing new was in the movie :(
Well done Homer !, 2008-10-12 Simpsons: Season One (REGION 1) (NTSC)
The whole thing is a mixture of different parodies with fans of Disney & Independence Day getting the needle . There is the usual raucous blend of satire & social comment coupled with madcap slapstick . All our favorite characters are present in this mickey being taken out of conspiracy films left , right and center . As per usual Homer causes mayhem - only now on a bigger scale than is normally the case . There is a good strong moral about not harming the Eco-system through ones own selfishness while the political class comes in for the type of razor sharp critique that Rory Bremner would be proud to call his own . The conflict between love of family & the need for civic duty is touchingly & effectively covered in this film . I am sure that many people long for the sequel !
You can certainly watch this movie on two levels - either as a child laughing at the cartoon type silliness or as an adult enjoying the mockery being doled out to those in high places . It is a feel good spin off from a successful & long running series that is great and knows it . The editing & writing is inspired as is the casting . Amazon are offering it at a great price. So there are certainly worse ways to pass the time than picking up your duff n donuts and having a few laughs with the best purveyors of cinematic parody since the Carry On series proper ended in 1978 . Like the Carry On's The Simpsons are a long running comedy series that know how to get laughs from many subjects and are in many ways historical sources as they betray the attitudes that where popular when they where made . So don't delay - buy from Amazon today !
