Apple MIGHTY Mouse!, 2008-10-23 I have a MacBook Pro, and I love the tracker pad on it, but this is just a lot more useful.
The programmable buttons allow you to do so much more at the click of a button, and i haven't had any problems with the ball getting damaged, as it is still working fine 5 months after i bought it.
It sync'd with my MBP and was up and running in under 2 minutes, and didnt need any faffing about with CD's etc.
My only criticism would be, that it doesn't automatically re-connect itself with your Mac when you come back into range, you have to click the mouse for it to turn on, and it takes about 5 seconds to be ready for use again, but that is just me being inpatient.
Overall, a great piece of kit, if not a tad expensive, but hey... that's Apple, you get what you pay for, brilliant products.
Excellent, 2008-10-26 Does exactly what is says on the tin. The mouse is responsive enough for most uses (wouldn't use it for gaming perhaps), the scroll ball is a god send with my 12" powerbooks limited screen real estate and the shape is very comfortable.
I have read the problems others have had with the scroll ball. I've thrown mine into bags and not really treated it too well and its still running very smoothly.
The bluetooth syncing is extremely easy too.
Recommended.
Best mouse I've ever used., 2008-08-25 I bought a Wireless Mighty Mouse to use with my Macbook because I hate using the touchpad. Straight away I was impressed by the quality feel of the mouse, it is very typical of Apple in that it has had a lot of thought put into its design meaning that not only do you get something which looks great but you feel confident that it is going to last and continue working well.
Setup in OS X (Leopard) was a doddle, connected straight away with no issues at all and has remained in use ever since.
I use Logic 8 Pro and find that the scroll ball on this mouse makes navigation on the timeline particularly good. Not only can you scroll with the usual vertical movement but also from left to right. This makes moving to areas of the track I'm working on quick and easy. I also find it very handy when moving through my music in iTunes which I have setup in the cover flow system.
Battery life seems encouraging, I've had it in almost constant use for the last three months on the first charge of a pair of rechargable batteries, the intelligent power management seems to be pretty effective.
The extra side buttons are a little stiff and I find them a bit annoying to use but they serve a purpose and being asignable is definately benificial. I do find the scroll ball a little flimsy feeling but I'm sure it's designed to feel this way and so I'm not overly concerned.
To sum up I would say that this is a great buy. It's well made, nice to look at and very effective, the price may be a bit high and so this coupled with my slight gripes about the side buttons and scroll ball means that it doesn't get 5 stars.
A bit of a Britney, 2008-12-07 ...in that it's pretty to look at but has issues.
I'm a big fan of many of the products that Apple make but this one is not one of them.
In general it works well and Apple's Bluetooth stack makes it easy to use, but I frequently find;
1- The scroll ball gets clogged up and ceases to work.
2- The Side buttons offer no feedback and you frequently press them when you do not mean to (disable them, trust me).
3- The right-click button frequently gets detected as a left-click. By frequently I mean 80% of the time.
4- The Bluetooth chip in it is so poorly behaved that you cannot use the mouse at the same time as you use Bluetooth Stereo Audio (A2DP) from a Mac.
You will love this product for 2 weeks and then hate it for the rest of your life. And then hate yourself for using it just because it's pretty.
Fabulous until it stops., 2008-12-28 The mouse is great. The buttons can all be selected to do different things. I can click the scroll wheel and Expose will be activated. I use the side buttons for Dashboard. Very convenient.
Now the annoying problem: it becomes dirty quick and the scroll ball soon becomes unusable. This is easily remedied however. For all people with the scroll ball issues all it takes is vigourous cleaning. Put a bit of whatever cleaning product you use for your Keyboard and simply scrub over the ball so it. Push into it and spin it round. After you have finished it should then work again.
If it wasn't for this I'd give it 5 stars. Hoping Apple will bring the multitouch to the mouse. Or at the very least update to a new version so that we don't have this annoying problem. White is just a terrible choice for something so frequently handled.
