Excellent game that crashes, 2010-08-30 The game itself is fabulous. Unfortunately, it crashes every 10 minutes or so.
My video card is an Intel Chipset 4, processor: Coreduo 2.4 Ghz with 1.9Mb Ram.
What an amazing world they created., 2010-02-11 I do have a bit of a love hate with this game.
The style of the game is absolutely fantastic. The world design and feel is complete and distinct. By that I mean the plot, characters, graphics and audio are all perfectly designed. You have a semi derelict underwater world from an alternate 50s, whose inhabitants have experienced gene experiments to improve human life without truly being aware of the consequences. What an excellent premise for a game.
You play a 3D shooter with guns in one hand and spell like gene alterations in the other. You follow a well thought out rescue story and on the way hack into the worlds own defences to help you out.
My problem with the game is that in ways it reminded me of a poor Deus Ex. Although I thought there were different paths it was an illusion. I hacked everything I came across and if I saw something I could electrocute or set on fire of use my telekinetic powers on I did. Once I finished I realised there was no reason to come back. There are no real stats as such to become a master hacker or elementalist. You are always the rather more basic jack of all trades. Certain enemies re spawn which is something I really hate in games. I little more roleplayish where you could develop your own unique (to an extent) character and this game would have been an all time classic.
Still head and shoulders above most other games in the creation of their own world and well worth experiencing.
Although apart from having to activate my game each time I installed it I have not witnessed any issues from the way the game is controlled by its protection. I have had this game for years now and have played it on around 4 systems. Be aware though that it has more severe protection than most people find acceptable.
Wow!, 2010-05-04 This has got to be the greatest game ever... I owned the PC version and played it over and over. I've had to sell it though as I'm 'forced' to migrate to the xbox 360 - amazing platform though and no regrets - and yes the first game I bought for my new platform was... Bioshock!
Incidentally to get this game to run on windows 7 64bit I right clicked on the icon and ran it under directx 9 - other than that I had no problems.
Can't express just how amazing the game is - I think it's even better on the X360! (HD gaming!!!)
great game, 2010-02-25 was really good fun playing the game really addictive story line great weapons and plasmids very tough though and can be hard to find ammo and health some times but thats part of the fun for me lol:) over all a really great game :)
BSOD, sound issues, and a general disaster, 2010-03-14 I've had Blue Screen of Death crashes with both Bioshock titles, and for the moment I've uninstalled them before deciding/discovering whether patching will help. But what I HAVE played of the game demonstrates just how in advance most PC versions of games are to their console cousins. Really, on mid-to-high settings, Bioshock is a wonder to behold. Astonishingly good looking and great to play with precise keyboard and mouse controls.
After uninstalling, I went back to my Xbox 360 copy, which I've had for years. Free from crahes, but once you've seen and played Bioshock on PC, the console versions are just so much "Meh". It really does look and play pretty bland without access to higher resolutions PCs and keyboard and mouse support.
Edit, 26 March 2010: I hope that my original (high) score has been re-set to one star, as that's what I've just changed it to. This is now uninstalled, and I'm heading off to sell it (for peanuts, obviously). Then some other poor, hapless PC gamer can enjoy the "delights" of Bioshock on PC. This is by far the worst PC port I have ever encountered. If it's not a sound issue which you may solve by changing the compatibility in Properties on your shortcut, it's the ever-present Blue Screen Of Death every two minutes. For your computer's health and your own, I say avoid like the plague, but if you really MUST play it on your big, widescreen PC monitor, get the console version and connect your Xbox/PS3 up via a VGA lead.
This is the dregs of PC porting.
