Useful but flawed, 2008-12-26 Installed OK on Vista SP1, but then it required a 40+ Mb patch file downloaded to bring it up to date.
I really object to paid-for software trying to install web browser toolbars on my system by default - in this case Yahoo Toolbar.
On first impression there appears to be a substantial user guide, but only the first 140 pages are in English.
The programme itself is capable when dealing with photos and achieves good results. However the the interface is very cluttered and the grey / black background with white text on the menus is not that easy to look at.
My version had an offer card to download a free copy of Corel MediaOnePlus (media management software), though this version lacks the DVD maker and is a further download.
Excellent for A Level Photography, 2008-09-10 Calling all photography students. I have had this software no less than a month and it is a dream.
I am currently doing an A Level photography course at my local college which requires software like this to enhance and modify your work to create stunning pieces to show in the end of year exhibit.
It is so easy to use compared to previous versions and runs flawlessly on my computer. If you want something that is reasonably priced, easy to use and creates amazing pictures this is the software for you.
Definately not for laptops..., 2008-11-08 Paint Shop Pro came to my attention after receiving the latest version of TurboCAD v15 Pro which I use extensively for work purposes, the idea being to import drawings for production into finished presentable artwork. I decided to try the programme out first with Corel's free monthly trial and I'm glad I did - I found the programme to be annoying from the start. The first thing to happen was a long wait on start-up whilst it 'raided' all my photo files and converted them to run in PSP. OK, so perhaps that is to be expected. BUT-
I deal daily with customers who I visit and need to show them information from my laptop, including photos of equipment. Having waited for the computer to load up initially, on selection of a photo I them had to wait further for the PSP to load before showing the selected photo. Previously of course the photo would open in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer and would appear very quickly which is ideal, to wait for PSP to initialise to show the photo is not. AND-
The screen kept flickering, stepping to one side a couple of millimetres then freezing for a second or two before moving back. Once or twice you can put up with but this was happening every 5-10 minutes. I don't know whether this is because it was a trial copy or because it is on a laptop but it is not acceptable for it to happen. FINALLY-
Once the trial was over I was unable to open any photo files until I had completely removed PSP from my system. I would expect that once the trial was over the programme would automatically deactivate, but maybe I'm expecting too much.
In short, if you want instant access to your photos or you own a laptop then avoid this programme!
Stick with Version 9 if you can get it, 2008-09-03 This version offers little more than version 9 and is far more memory intensive. I Bought this directly from Corel and have been unable to even activate it as it just hangs. The help is hopeless and I have removed this from my PC and am looking to get a refund.
As I say in the header get Paint Shop Pro 9 which was one of the later ones before Corel ruined it
Start up problems, 2008-10-24 First make sure your PC has a DVD reader otherwise you cannot load it.
Secondly it is not compatible with Norton 360.I could not start Paintshop. Corel tell me it is a known problem and Norton are aware.
Norton denied this and after many attempts to solve the problem they deleted Norton 360 and installed Norton 2009 and the problem was solved
