Can't see anything wrong with it yet., 2008-10-11 I bought this printer a couple of weeks ago, with some ink (ink was pricey, hence 4 stars).
So far it has been great, it prints really quickly, although I only use it for lecture slides at the moment, have yet to print anything too colourful as I don't have the right paper for doing so!
Hasn't thrown up any faults or anything, and the scanner is pretty good, done a few photo scans with it and they seem to come out well.
Not bad value, there also seem to be plenty of features on it that I haven't got round to using yet!
For the casual user, I'm sure it's perfectly good enough, I think a lot of bad reviews come from people trying to use a fairly low budget printer industrially, which they aren't designed for.
Speed took me by surprise, 2008-03-13 I have only had this machine for just under a week. In common with all other printers I've seen on sale recently it doesn't come with the USB cable, but then most stores will alert you to this fact. I couldn't find the product sticker on the machine but it was on the outside of the box it came in so no worries there for registration purposes.
My old epson printer took a lot longer than this machine does to produce a page of mono text and I was caught off guard as a result. Its handy to be able to use the optional duplex facility as it cuts down enormously on the amount of paper you get through. Photos that I've printed out and scanned into the pc before printing have come out nicely and duly been dispatched to my mother (stops her nagging about lack of pictures of the great grand-kids). Its worth shopping around for the photo paper though as this can work out pricey and the added bonus of not having to purchase a separate photo cartridge is pleasing to my pocket. I also like the way that you can close the front output tray when its not in use and save on the dusting!
Be warned that if you want to alter print settings before printing out stuff, you really need to go through the machine's own software to do so - its easy enough to find as it places itself on your desktop as it installs- trying to alter print settings from the application you're in at the time gets ignored. Overall I think its a nice piece of equipment and worth the money.
wrong power cable, 2008-05-13 I wasn't expecting a usb printer cable as no one supplies these with the printer anymore. I did expect to be able plug the printer into the mains when I got it. I was disappointed and frustrated to find that I had been supplied a contintental two pin power cable. I'm waiting to see it this gets sorted out by customer services. Very disappointed not to be able to use the printer at all.
pixma mp220, 2008-04-16 I am giving this product 4 stars because I have not used all of its features. This is the second printer. The first printer (which according to a Canon call centre operative was faulty)was returned to Amazon.
They were extremely helpful and their service was five star standard.Within 48 hours new m/c was delivered and original m/c collected with absolute minimum of hassle.
The original printer I had "the problem" with was inserting the ink cartridges. Canon do not really explain that when inserting the cartridges you need to lift and push the cartridge home hard, until you hear the click. And when I say hard I mean hard.I am a pure nerd when dealing with this type of stuff. But I am very pleased with this purchase
Printer is fine - Registration is ridiculous, 2009-01-05 Before I bought this printer I checked with Canon by phone who confirmed it was compatible with Windows Millenium. It was also advertised by Argos as compatible with ME. On connection I found it was NOT. Long story short...I bought a new computer with Vista loaded and kept the printer. The printer works well, I am pleased with the output and speed and the copy/scan facilities (all in one) are fine too. The user registration is ridiculous. You would think you were registering a Rolex gold watch instead of a cheap printer. You will need a torch and good eyesight to read the serial number when you eventually find it, hidden behind the print cartridges. You cannot choose your own password, they email it to you. The craft facility I couldn't get to work...so slow...unbelievable and although it said CD covers and cases could be printed all I got was a stupid heart shaped cut out photo album amidst all the advertising that is.
I would recommend the printer but forget the rest !!
