Oh joy! After dumping my second Epson all singing-all dancing-makes the coffee too into the skip because of failure of its clunky and fragile paper feed I have returned to Canon and have a machine that is solid, convincingly engineered and, so far, dependable. True, it is noticeably slower than the Epsons, but time isn't everything and the results are very good and worth waiting a little for. It also seems to be much more economical on ink than the Epsons, and like the Epsons it has the advantage of single colour ink tanks without the expense of having to buy a print head every time you replace a cartridge. Such a shame, though, that Canon have joined in with the ecological indefensible practice of chipping the cartridges so that they can't be recycled and must be consigned to landfill - commercially sound, no doubt, but environmentally disastrous! The user interface is friendly and offers a more useful range of options than do the Epsons. One thing though; the automatic duplexing is painfully slow with long pauses while it is 'waiting for the ink to dry': I have set the default to manual duplexing and switch to automatic only when I can print in the background while I get on with other things. But that is a minor carp: there is much more I really like about the Canon and I am delighted to have returned to the fold. I do not anticipate needing to dump the Canon into the skip for a long time to come.

I bought this printer mainly because I wanted good print quality, I have to say that I am overwhelmed with the print quality! There is minimal noise as it prints,it is fairly quick and very easy to use. I bought some extra inks, because usually the first ink cartridges that are supplied with printers do not last long, but I have printed literally hundreds of cards and it still hasn't run out! I am very pleased that I bought it.

This is the second multifunction printer that I have owned and replaces an Epson RX500 that just stopped working. The first thing I noticed was the unit, although quite a large machine, was actually much neater and aesthetically acceptable than the RX500 it replaced - in my view the way the Canon looks and operates makes the Epson look almost prehistoric

The Canon is very quiet when either scanning or printing and the print quality is of a very high standard and no longer do I have ink-soaked paper that I suffered with on the Epson from new. The feature of having the printer select paper from either the top-feed or the cassette tray is a big bonus as it means I can either only use the cassette (removing that unsightly stack of floppy paper sticking out all the time) or I can have two different grades of paper (sometimes I print to card or adhesive labels) without having to swap them over each time (and usually forgetting!).

The Canon comes with easy to follow step-by-step instructions, was installed within about 10 minutes and is very simple to operate - not that I have used all its functions yet but have simply printed and scanned basic documents and photographs.

I would class myself as a medium user (my wife uses it to print for her business) and although I bought this in August I am still on the original ink cartridges - the PGI black is just about to be replaced

As usual I read many reviews - something I love Amazon for - and decided that I couldn't go wrong with the Canon and I haven't. Amazon had the best price and delivered it for free in just 2 days. I notice that the printer is now only £84.99 on Amazon - you just can't go wrong at this price for such a good quality product.

The product is extremely well packaged and presented. Both Hardware and Software setup was logical and quick. However, after only 3 days of light use, the device presented an Error which required it to be returned to the factory - Not an uncommon occurence on this model. In 12 months, it has been returned 3 times. The fault has now occured again outside of the 12 month Warranty and must be returned to a Canon repair centre. Both the Canon support and printer reliability of this model has been severely below the standards I expected of Canon. I simply would not recommend this device to anyone as the error is known fault which in the interests of customer service and satisfaction should have been dealt with through a product recall.

Average rating of 4/5Average rating of 4/5Average rating of 4/5Average rating of 4/5Average rating of 4/5 Great Printer - Lousy Manual(s), 2008-12-21
I have had this printer for several months with light usage. The print quality is excellent and as noted in other reviews it is quiet, if bulky and heavy. My only gripe is about the manuals supplied and the on-screen instructions on the device. All are woefully inadequate. Not just poor translations from the original language but lacking lots of information. For example, I just tried to copy two documents onto one page (which is a supported feature) but all that happened was that I got two copies of the first document on both pages of my copy. I also failed to find the model number of a replacement ink tank in the manual. You would have thought it was in the Specification section - but no.
Looking for an updated version on the dreadful Canon consumer website I notice they are now selling manauals!! Wow.
So, I am torn between admiration for a great bit of kit and anger at the lousy instructions and documentation.
