goo so far, 2008-11-02 Aiptek Media Tablet 14000U
Well, bought it two weeks ago, and so far it's doing the job but... you can tell that product is finished bit poorly, in mine on one side is small chink, shouldn't be like that, especially when you pay this price (£85 it is a bit of money) but overall I am happy with my purchase, would recommend to start with Aiptek, have fun and learn how to work with this toy and probably when my knowledge grown up will by Wacom :)
Far better than Wa(ste)com , 2008-10-16 Owned an A5 Wacom for the last 2 years, it cost about double what I spent on this.
And was inaccurate compared to this pad from Aiptek, an absolute joy to use and half the money!. Sold my A5 wacom to pay for it lol and still had change!
One thing I can comment on is I have not tried the A4 Wacom and I have a feeling that anything less than an A4 pad just does not suffice for a normal sized monitor.
Maybe this is where the problem lies with the A5 Wacom.
The pen also feels better due to added weight of battery and the whole thing looks better made. Do not buy Wacom buy this! Only reason for 4 star is buttons on pen should be somewhere else... I don't know where, but they just dont seem right in their current position. Wacom product would get a 2/3 star.
this product is being pushed? poor software, 2009-01-07 this tablet has very poor software. If you would like to use it in a dual display environment, just forget it! It has no driver for dual display, so that it spans both displays on the format that would be fitting one wide display. This is bad, as both displays are represented in a false resolution (the height of each display is bigger than its width (on the tablet). This is of course wrong!
regarding the tablet functionality:
- slow response when using it for free hand drawing in pixel software (like photoshop)
- dimensions and price are ok, but this doesn't help at all.
Aiptek Media Tablet 14000U , 2009-01-05 As with most people on here, I was not keen on spending a fortune on a Wacom tablet initially as I had previously never used a tablet for my graphics work.
I picked up my Aiptek 14000 for about £90 almost a year ago now, and have since then been extremely happy with it, using it more and more all the time. I began using it on my old Sony RX-203, 19 inch 4:3 monitor on Windows XP with Adobe CS and was very happy with the results, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash (for animation not code) are my my main programmes but I also use Manga Studio and Toon Boom, both in addition to Adobe CS work flawlessly.
There is some hidden treats with this over the Wacom tablets, the pressure sensitivity (1024 levels) along with the very high resolution of 4000-lpi, is equal to the Wacom tablets available at the time so this was a great start, many cheap tablets are half the Wacoms normally, and an extra bonus was the 34 programmable quick menu keys, this tablet has one extra huge bonus, it is dual mode so can be used with a widescreen monitor too, so switching to my new 27 inch monitor meant I just press the 4:3 to 16:9 button and we are ready to go instantly!!
I have now upgraged to a completely new PC, now running on Vista Pro (32bit), and have dual monitors with my Aiptek tablet working on my huge 27inch screen, which still works perfectly. Please note that you cannot set up the tablet to work from both monitors, which isn't really a problem as I only do artwork on the one anyway.
I actually use a combination of the tablet and mouse together almost all the time now as this combination makes my workflow extremely fast and very productive.
I can only say that I am so pleased with this and the ONLY thing that would improve this would be the addition of a transparent overylay so that you could place artwork to trace underneath. I have fashioned my own using some very thin Perspex and some stick on Velcro! Perfect!
I rate this:
9/10 - Value for money
8/10 - Usability / Set-up
9/10 - Quality
Fantastic Value For Money, 2008-12-03 Very slim, very responsive and a true pleasure to use. The software that comes with this graphics tablet is discreet and functional. The tablet itself has a very large working area, many programmable hotkeys - as well as some useful buttons for scrolling/zooming etc.
The programmable hotkeys make using your favourite software a very quick and streamlined process.
Without a doubt this is the best graphics tablet in it's price range.
