Does what it says., 2008-08-02 Comment: I used to have a Hitachi TravelStar 80GB 7200RPM ATA/IDE on my Dell Inspiron 9300. After 4 years it started to give me grinding noises. So I was looking for the same model for a replacement. However it is now impossible to find a 7200RPM ATA 2.5inch disk now dayes. All you can get is SATA.
So I got this Hitachi TravelStar 5K160 ATA/IDE. I put my Norton Ghost disk image from the previous disk onto this one and started working straight away.
I do a lot of 3D work and image manipulation work. Haven't really noticed any reduction in speed with this drive. I do have 2GB RAM on my laptop.
Also it is generating less heat as expected due to the reduced RPM.
It is worth noting that my previous disk was ATA100. This disk is ATA160. There have been no compatability issues.
Overall it is a good replacement.
