This mouse is an absolute gem. i like a wide grip and the G9 gave me that option.

It is weight adjustable and comes with weights so my preference for a heavy weight feel is there.

The greatest feature of this mouse is the adjustable DPI though which effects the mouse sensitivity, and the profiles you can set up. I have one profile for windows and then I use a gaming profile with 5 settings, so with an SMG, Shotgun or hip firing gun I can turn and fire on a six pence, but when sniping the dpi comes down and the telescopic sight moves smoothly to allow you precise aiming.

Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5 The best mouse I've ever used, 2008-11-10
I bought this mouse in December 2007 and since then I haven't used any other mice willingly. The fact that you can plug it into any other computer and it will work and have your profiles saved on it, ready to use means that you don't have to use any other mice. I like it because it is big and fits my rather large, wide hands very well; the thumb rest is very nice and the grip is designed so that my fourth and little fingers don't just rub on the mouse mat like with other mice. This also allows me to use it for hours on end without the usual cramp in my hand from gripping a small, badly designed mouse like most people have.
The wheel is fantastic: by pressing a button on the under side of the mouse you can switch between ratchet scrolling (where there is a definite click between each line of scrolling) and a freely rotating wheel. This means you can effortlessly scroll through large documents in seconds by just flicking the wheel and letting it spin.
The Profiles work very well indeed, allowing you to program each of the 8 customisable buttons to do what you want in five different profiles. The DPI range is greater than any mouse I've seen and can be adjusted in finer increments, so you can tailor the responsiveness for many different applications.
Speaking of which, if you're as lazy as me you can set the mouse to detect which application you are using and change the profile accordingly. Unfortunately having this feature active means that you can no longer manually change profiles until you have turned it off so you will have to program every application into the mouse or it will revert back to the default profile.
Customisation couldn't be easier, you just select which function you want each button to perform from a drop down menu. Macros are easily written in the macro manager and the set point software (which you download free from Logitech) is very intuitive.
The ability to add additional mass to your mouse is handy if, like me, you prefer something a bit heavier so it feels like you're actually holding something, rather than waving a flimsy bit of plastic around.
All in all this mouse is put together very well and every feature it comes with is useful and intuitive.

The Logitech G9 is my first every "gaming" mouse, and the most expensive mouse I have every purchased.

Speaking to others on-line who have mixed opinions on it the basic problem seems to be too many options. They are lost fiddling with the weights, the selectable profiles etc etc.
Basically this mouse will do anything you want a mouse to do, if you just get it to where you want it to be and then leave it alone. The weight is a case in point, just get it where it feels right moving from side to side and then put the little box in a cupboard.

There are so many options available, including the ability to change the speed of movement up or down during game play, seperate movement rates for vertical and horizontal and profiles that can me made Game specific.
In general day to day use it is also excellent as a profile can be set to accomodate office use.

I may be a little biased as I am getting on very well with it but I think it is a work of pure genius and worth every penny.
Just resist the temptation and don't fiddle too much..

I bought this mouse a few months ago now, I was very impressed with the control and accuracy I had while gaming, I really liked being able to add the weights, having it heavier gave me much better aim in my favorite FPS games.

The software that comes with it installs fine on both XP and Vista systems, giving you the ability to customise the preset DPI settings and the colour of the lights on the mouse, very nice touch if you like your peripherals to match a certain colour scheme.

However Logitech seem to have overlooked a few things that really let this otherwise brilliant product down, first is the cable, it is a rubberised cable that has a woven synthetic material over the top, this makes the cable prone to kinks and has made the cable on mine kink and distort so bad where the cable enters the mouse body that the material split and the rubber cable bulge out making some of the wires inside exposed.

At time of writing this I have contacted Logitechs customer support and am awaiting to see if they will send me a replacement as I am still covered by the warranty, so heres hoping.

So to summarise I'd recommend this for someone who only uses the mouse on one computer and who doesn't game or use it for more than 4 hours a day because the cable and scroll wheel doesn't seem capable of withstanding any more usage than that.
