I have to say that this machine, whilst heavy and cumbersome, does an incredible job on carpets and I guess won't be needed too often anyway. The price (Special offer 1/2 price) was excellent as was the delivery. My only real gripe is that the instructions are not logically laid out and are in parts quite ambiguous; never mind, you learn on your first carpet.
We vacuum regularly with a top-of-the-range Dyson and we were amazed at how dirty the vacuumed-up water was. The contra-rotating brushes bring the nap up beautifully. All in all highly recommended.

Just used my Vax CCW-702 Rapide XL Pre-treatment carpet washer for the first time. To echo some earlier points raised, the instructions are basic but easy to understand and it is a heavy machine to use compared to an upright vacuum cleaner but I believe this is necessary to maintain good suction and contact with the carpet. The separate clean, dirty and solution tank system makes it a breeze to set up and operate and it has done an excellent job on my carpets. Also £100 off in deal of the week, I'm well pleased!

I've been using this for to do a few carpets around the home. I've washed 2 carpets so far.
Assembly is not especially easy, and the instruction manual has line drawings (not even coloured in!) to assist with assembly. Why they couldn't have taken pictures/coloured things in is a mystery in this day and age.
Using the machine is really straight forward. You just turn all buttons to 'on' and then depress the 'dispense soap' button (a bit like 'turn on blades' on a lawnmower) and away you go.
You have to be really really slow when you drag the device along the carpet and the machine is so heavy (4kg of water as well to carry around) that this is not a job for one person. Remember you have to move all the furniture around (twice!). Another low point is having to refil the water dispenser about 4-5 times during the course of a room, not to mention dispensing the dirty water tank - though its always satisfying to see the dirty water as you know the machine is doing its job.
Remember to vacuum the carpet before you wash as that will make the job easier. Additionally, for really heavy stains, you'll have to revisit the spot more than once.
Don't expect your carpet to look brand new, but it will look much cleaner and brighter and it will smell really nice. Also, it will assist with banishing allergens.
I'm yet to try it on heavily soiled light carpets, but think that with the pre-treatment wand and a patient hand, it should do wonders.

This cleaner is indeed heavy and you do have to travel slowly across the carpets but does an excellent job-which is clearly evident in the dirty water tank! I found this fairly easy to set up and the filling and emptying is a breeze compared to my old machine. Great results with the upholstery wand and loved the separate tank for the solution as this can stay in the machine between uses. Also no need to mix up a large tank of cleaning solution. I purchased this during a half price promotion and consider this cleaner fantastic value.
