This hard drive is very easy to install, and is very portable. For the size of it, it's capacity really amazing. However, when it comes to reliability it is not so good. After a few months use, I was forced to use the 2-year warranty and send it back because the data port broke, hence I lost a lot of valuable files.

Just Reading through the review's for the western digital passport & I am glad to see that most people seem to be happy with the drive. I personaly would not recommend this drive, I bought it about 9 months ago and after 2 months it just stopped working, getting message USB device not recognised, I have tried it on four different computers XP & Vista all with the same reply. A workmate had the same drive & had the same problem a few months before, tried sending a couple of e-mails to western digital with no reply, P.S. I Have since bought the Freecom Toughdrive, had it for about eight months with no problems & have since bought a second one, if you are looking for a hard drive this is the one I would recommend.

I bought this for use with an NSLU2 network storage link. It runs fine from USB power, reducing cable tangle. Most importantly, it is virtually silent. I had it in my living room running constantly for months. It is inaudible, even on a quiet Sunday morning. It might be slightly slower than a noisy full size drive, but that has not been a problem. Also, it looks nice! I have been very satisfied with this product.

I have now had 2 of these drives die with a dodgy clicking noise occurring after only a few months use.

Western Digital Passport drives are completely unreliable and a massive waste of money. They may be small and cool-looking but if they don't last what's the point?

Average rating of 1/5Average rating of 1/5Average rating of 1/5Average rating of 1/5Average rating of 1/5 Lasts 12 months 7 days - one to avoid!, 2008-09-04
I bought this at the end of August 2007 and had no problems with it. Until yesterday when the drive started clicking and becoming unrecognizable to the PC. This drive has had light use, has very carefully looked after and has not been carried about with a laptop. Despite its very easy life it is also the ONLY HDD drive I have had fail in over 20 years of computing.

As long as you think of this a drive which will fail sooner or later (pretty much the instant the warranty expires!) you won't be disappointed.
