The concept of this device are great, and I understand the pitfalls that such a device may have for the R and D department. Nevertheless, this remote just doesn't do the job well enough if at all.

Bad points.

1. Unless all your equipment is pretty much bunched up altogether, then he infrared beam isn't wide enough. I have my plasma TV on the wall 4 feet above the rest of the gear and therefore the macros won't work effectively.

2. The pre-programmed buttons just don't do the correct function. I press the GUIDE button for the digibox and I get a channel change instead. The off button for the Digibox changes the HDMI input on the TV. (?)

3. Volume control and channel Up and Down buttons signal for too long duration so it jumps a channel each time you press once.

4. The macros are a joke. It just never manages to get it all correct. I can point my original TV remote out of the window in the adjacent room and it STILL works the TV. You've got to point this thing directly at all the devices in one go for it to work.

5. I am forever using the help function to turn off/on things so it knows where it's at because IT keeps not functioning correctly.

5. The functions are intermittent. Sometimes they work, other times they don't. Some just do nothing.

6. Screen layout is terrible with wasted space on the sreen layout. With a LOT of effort you can reconfigure the screen to layout the buttons you want, but its kantankerous. Instead by default you have to go through a whole menu system to find the one you want. This is really really stupid.

Goodthings.

1. Lots products listed.
2. Nicely made.
3. Comes in a nice box.
4. PC connect.

It's a real shame that Logitech didn't just get this right. It's a complete mess. Don't buy it...! I would pay £20 max!

I have bought hundreds of products from Amazon and despite being a journalist, never felt moved to write a review until now.

The reason I have made an exception? I am so impressed with this gadget I wanted to share my enthusiasm and encourage you if you are wavering.

In a nutshell, this product works.

It took me minutes to set up, it corresponded almost exactly to my original remotes and I could combine my different devices (using my amp for TV volume for instance) on one screen.

There are hard buttons for common functions like Volume and Select to make it easier to control. And the touch screen responds when touched (not always the case with other products).

One button on the remote did not correspond to the command I wished to give. I was able to put it right in moments. I can follow simple instructions but I am no computer geek. This was entirely straightforward.

I fiddled around with cheaper models before buying this. I wish I hadn't. And I am glad too that I didn't buy anything more expensive.

My good turn for the day is to tell you - buy this, you wont regret it.

The first remote I received would not power up so it was returned.

The second remote would power up however was faulty and could not be connected to by PC or Mac.

Two deviced received and both were faulty. The build quality and reliability is clearly questionable.

Got the Harmony 1000 as a christmas present. On the plus side, it didn't take too long to set up the basics using the web-based setup, and it does operate all of my equipment which is a first for any type of "one for all" remote. Not least because some of my equipment is over a decade old. The unit is slim and rechargeable and relatively easy to use. On the downside, the touchscreen isn't as sensitive as it might be and for most of my equipment you have to scroll through a large number of screens to get to the button you want which is a huge time waster. In addition, a few more "hardware" buttons wouldn't have gone amiss such as red green yellow and blue TV/satellite buttons as these seem fairly universal on remotes at the moment.
I haven't mastered programming the macro functions yet as the software isn't that intuitive or flexible but I'm putting that down to my inexperience at this time. I believe I can swap a few of the keys around so as not to have to do so much scrolling. If so,this will eventually be almost perfect for me.
Since I currently have 7 remote controls cluttering up my living room, this will save a considerable amount of space. I will persevere with the Harmony 1000 because it is the first one I've found which does what it says on the tin. Overall, very pleased that we finally do have a remote which can control all our equipment.
