Bought to replace an old sony cyber shot- good price - too many to choose from really:
pros: price competitive, 4x optical zoom, crisp pictures as expected, nice macro function for taking pictures of small things,
cons: batteries (non rechargeable), a bit clunky looking (not a sexy thing),
Does need larger memory card - so annoying to have to fish around amazon to find on that actually comes from amazon (ie not marketplace), which though more expensive will be delivered together and free.
Can anyone recommend a good rechargeable battery option?

Average rating of 4/5Average rating of 4/5Average rating of 4/5Average rating of 4/5Average rating of 4/5 not the best, but still very good, 2008-07-30
Got this camera for a friend of mine, first cause it is a Canon, and second cause the price was very good, unbeatable.
In comparison to other Canon cameras (e.g. Digital Ixus range, 55), this camera does not really stand in the crowd. However, there are very good points about it.
First of all, the picture quality is fantastic, really impressive. Very sharp contrast, and the color, saturation, is really good.
I was not very impressed with the build itself, it kind of feel like it is all made of plastic when you first hold it, and this means that you would feel that it could break easily. That was not really the point, cause after getting used to it, you would recognize that it is actually very sturdy and solid.
What I did not like is that it did not have rechargeable batteries, which is always the best thing to have in my opinion.
The provided memory card is not big enough, so you certainly need to get one with larger capacity, SD card.
The LCD display is really really good, and at 2.5 inches, that is more than you would want from a digital camera. Having 7.1 mega pixel is a huge advantage for this camera, and would certainly mean better quality images, and at this price, this is an absolute must buy. In a word, great camera, could have been better, but the most important thing after all in digital cameras is how good the photo quality is, and the quality this camera produces is simply awesome.

What a little gem ....

Ok, so it's silver, it's made of plastic, its lightweight;

I have two Canon digi cameras. Canon A 590 and A 560. 30 pound odd different buy A590 and you can not go wrong. A560 is OK but no good at all for close up and macro. This A560 has average image quality but A 590 has its own class ... clearly the winner is A590. A570 A580 and A590 all are better than A560. Last year I bought A570 and immage sharpness was the best. Not much price different among them ... then go for A590IS.(Battery life for 560 is A+ )

Average rating of 3/5Average rating of 3/5Average rating of 3/5Average rating of 3/5Average rating of 3/5 A disappointment, 2008-05-10
Perhaps I am being too hard on the 560, but overall I am disappointed. I rave about Canon cameras, recommending them to my friends. I currently have an S5is as my main camera, and am very pleased with it. When my wife's A70 died, after 5 years service, the A560 seemed the perfect replacement: double the pixels, slightly higher zoom and all in a smaller model.

Unfortunately I am not overly impressed. The build is not as good as the older A70, and more importantly, the image quality is inferior. Pictures are less sharp and the colours less natural than I am used to from the older camera.

It is not a "bad camera" and for the price it is a bargain. I like the size, I like the optical viewfinder (increasingly rare these days) but it is not of the quality I have come to expect from Canon. I could not recommend this camera, and instead would suggest that paying the extra for the A580 or A720 would be a better move.
