Cannot disable NAT!, 2008-07-17 I bought this product because of good reviews, excellent specification (or so I thought) and the that fact that it would look good next to my Sharp Aquos in the lounge.
If you have a single dynamic IP from your ISP you'll probably be fine with this item. I have 8 static IPs from my ISP so I really needed to be able to turn off the NAT feature of this modem/router to give PCs on my home network external IP addresses. I'd read the manual online before purchasing and sure enough this device is supposed to allow you to disable the NAT.
Unfortunately that NAT setting does not appear in the web-based configuration page for this modem/router. After calls to Belkin's call centre and on-line chats with Belkin technicians I still had no joy. In fact the engineers I spoke to said this item did not allow you to disable the NAT feature. Mine was the ver.3000uk model. Perhaps the Ver.1 model allowed this and they never corrected the manual? Looking at the HTML markup for the web-based configuration page, I can see the NAT setting section I want but it's commented out in the code.
In any case this modem/router is useless for my needs so I had to return it to Amazon. I hope this review helps someone with a similar setup.
Great!, 2008-09-19 This modem router has solved all our connection problems. Before we had very a very patchy connection that would drop the internet every time our wireless printer was turned on - very frustrating indeed. Now we have excellent wireless coverage throughout the house, a consistently good connection to the internet and can use our wireless printer without hassle. It took very little time to get the modem router up and running. We are very pleased and would happily recommend it!
    Complete dissatisfaction, 2008-07-29 Complete dissatisfaction
I bought this modem with hope to extend the wireless coverage in my house. Unfortunately, no matter where I place the modem or what channel I set the coverage does not improve. In fact my old Netgear54Mbit wireless router does better than Belkin.
I contacted the Live Chat support but either the system was down or the agent I spoke, I failed to communicate my issue to him.
I wish I could return it back to where I bought it.
Unstable and poor performance, 2008-07-25 I bought this to replace a 4 year old Belkin wireless G router, hoping to increase the speed and range. Unfortunately the N1 has been a huge dissapointment.
I live in a fairly modern house and there are no strong signals to interfere with performance. I have a mixture of G and N devices on the network and it is obvious that the router can't cope. It seems to constantly switch mode and drops the conection at least every hour, usually more often. I am rebooting the router every other day (I only needed to reboot my old G router every 4 months). The range is not much better than the old G router and struggles to connect through two walls to a PC 30 feet away.
Technical support has been poor and it is obvious there is a problem as when you go onto the router settings you immediately get a Pop up message "There are no firmware updates available for this router!!" Seems like support are fed up of people asking ;?). I was also told to update to a beta verison of a firmware update that hadn't passed Belkin QA - it didn't work (refused to upload).
I have got to the stage (after trying many suggestions from support), that I am going to return the product.
Having said all that, it is obvious that some people are having no problems, so I suspect they are either on an all N network or the manufacturing quality is poor and they just got lucky.
it all worked, 2008-10-12 Everything works! I've a wired computer in an outside, garage/studio and a wireless laptop in the house- they are networking and getting faster broadband connections than my previous completely wired modem.
The only snag was no internet connection after everything was installed and connected- this was completely righted by a simple restart.
