Product Description
New Internet services like "Triple Play" with features such as Internet TV, video on demand, VoIP telephony and high-speed Internet need a lot of bandwidth for their large quantities of data. The new devolo dLAN 200 AV adapter offers outstanding capabilities with simple plug-and-play networking: just plug the adapter into a household electrical socket, and you have a network over your home's electrical wiring. A range of 200 meters gives you plenty of flexibility to set up the network you need, whether at home or work. Streaming HDTV and VoIP telephony require interference-free data throughput - without annoying delays. For critical data transfer, the "Quality of Service" (QoS) function automatically prioritizes voice and video data over other applications. In this way, real-time applications can be transferred without interference. This is true even if multiple devices are operated in the network at the same time, each running a different application.

Easy to use and set up. I get throughput speeds approaching that of a wired network in my house (over a single ring main).
However, would have liked to see them cheaper (I needed 5 of them!)
Note also that while they can co-exist with other Homeplug systems, they won't talk to them.

Does what it says on the tin. Very quick and easy to set up and a good alternative to wireless for setting up a home network if wireless reception is an issue. The adaptors remain expensive however so for most wireless will remain a cheaper option. Once the price comes down this will become a more mainstream choice.

Being something of a networking ignoramous I was a litte nervous in ordering this product in case it did not work "straight out of the box". I need not have worried. Unpacked the box, plugged it in as shown in the incredibly simple and clear 1-2-3 instructions and I was up and running literally in 3-5 minutes from start to finish. Almost the first thing I tried was streaming video from a NAS to my media player - worked like a dream with no bandwidth issues at all. I am just so impressed that this was a complete no hassle does what it says on the tin solution.

I am using this system for high speed Internet within my house. What a great system, and who needs wireless when you can connect to the Internet from anywhere in the house at lightening speeds (consistently 100 Mbps). If you're hesitating over the price (the only downside I have found), think about all the grief that wireless can cause, not to mention security issues, and you will realise that paying a bit more now will save you pain later. You simply plug in the devices connect the cables, install the software and add the security ID of each device in the network. Done - 10 min. job!

Most of my computer kit is connected via a switch and traditional ethernet. However rather than use a "WiFi" add-on I selected a Devolo dLAN 200AV kit to extend my network. One connects to my switch the other goes anywhere in the house or garden where there is power.

It worked perfectly first time out of the box and I've never had any problem. Unlike wireless, it's fast, reliable and probably a lot more secure. It works with pretty much any computer that speaks TCP/IP over Ethernet which pretty much means anything these days.

Nothing is perfect - they do run a little warm and they are not cheap, but the fact that they work when WiFi is notorious for not working, more than makes up for the cost.
