BT VERVE 500 DECT PHONE WITH ANSWER MACHINE, 2008-10-13 The reviews i've read here are much, much too kind to this phone and to BT.
THIS SO CALLED PHONE, IS THE WORST PIECE OF KIT THE TECHNOLOGY WORLD HAS EVER SEEN, BE THAT ON 'ANY' PLATFORM; PHONES, DVD PLAYERS, TVs etc..etc !
I truly don't believe that ANY company has EVER put out a worse product.
As soon as I opened the box, I realised "Oh good grief...'Cheapo-Technology Presents'...... it's incomprehendable that buying from British Telecom, that you can actually be expected to not only pay for this garbage, but to actually use it too.
Furthermore, I must STRONGLY disagree with the other reviews....this phone (I hate even calling it a phone), does NOT look or feel good. It looks absolutely ghastly and feels the same. The fascia overall is the tackiest looking it could possibly be and as for the screen.... well, I simply have no words for how utterly miserable and dismal it is, and looks !!
I spent over £100 on the triple pack....and I jest not when I say I honestly wouln't take this for free; I truly mean that. I haven't even mentioned how horrendous the menus are....pathetic on ALL levels.
Did BT do 'any' research and development before launching this Fisher-Price tat?? They simply could't have. I'd be more than happy to bet that NONE of the BT executives (or employees for that matter) have this unit in their own house.
Sure...they'll offload it to the suckers online, where nobody gets to see and feel the darn thing in real life. Lovely glossy pics for the ads and plenty of so-called features, but you don't half get the real picture the second you open the box.
I haven't even said how many of the features either don't work, or are simply not there at all. It rings once, then stops. It has the worst audio possible; it's like a 1970's CB radio...BOTH DIRECTIONS. It rings during the night for no reason and when it actually manages itself to alert you to an incoming call...low and behold it doesn't allow you to answer it, EVEN AT THE BASE UNIT !!
BT have outdone themselves this time. They've now resorted to peddling this cheap, tasteless, useless rubbish on those 24hr shopping channels. Little do those poor folks know that 100% will be returned.
PLEASE, PLEASE do not waste one solitary dime on this toy-like trash....and if you do still buy it, good luck with returning it to BT's online shop. They make at least half a dozed attempts to throw you off; it'll tell you that you're too late when you're not and it also refreshes the page randomly as you are putting in your info...plus many more deceptive tricks.
The absolute worst tinny looking and feeling tat that even BT has put out to date. Get yourselves a good Panasonic or some other reliable brand...SIMPLY PUT; AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.
Dreadful - Avoid!!!, 2008-03-11 Bought this 2 phone set for my office a few days ago - here's a summary of minus points:
1. Speaker volume is far too low, even on max setting, ditto earpiece volume. What is audible sounds tinny & cheap.
2. The phone does not stand up away from the base, making "handsfree" a complete misnomer.
3. Signal breaks up even close to the base.
4. You cannot tell if someone else is making a call on another handset.
5. If your hands are bigger than a child's the handsets are way too slim.
6. Horrible cheap feel to the number buttons.
7. Menu too complicated.
Apparently the answer phone message is poorly recorded according to other reviews, but I sent it back for a refund before setting up the answerphone.
I have only ever bought BT phones in the past, and was always satisfied with their products. Let's hope this is a one-off!
looks good but that's it, 2008-02-03 I've recently had to buy ANOTHER cordless home phone because I got so fed up with this unit after suffering a year of missed calls because the ringtone didn't go off, not hearing the caller properly, & callers telling me my line quality was poor, or breaking up.
All these symtoms were down to the Verve 500, which I paid a princely £100 for. On initial inspection the unit looks quite cool, with adjustable screen background & many features including taking your mobile sim & reading all its numbers straight into the phone memory.
After this its downhill all the way. The read sim numbers often appear strangely scrambled or repeated, like the unit didn't download the sim properly. The unit 'feels' quite cheap & flimsy with tiny number buttons that require a hard press. The polyphonic ringtones are dreadful, leaving you little choice but to use the most basic. The second handset often only rings once & then makes a faint single 'pip' noise thus causing missed calls. The menus are vast & laborious, but the worst is this; you can barely hear the caller chatting to you even on max. volume settings (I'm middle aged & of sound hearing), & the caller often complains that the line is breaking up, (even when your standing next to the base station). Calls to the help desk get a typical response...reset the unit & start again. Guess what, same problems...
This should have killed off my faith in BT handsets but I did a crazy thing & bought the Verve's cheaper cousin, the 450. Now we're back to normal with a phone that works.
Extremely disappointing, 2008-02-29 The BT Verve 500 might look good on the outside but that's about it as far as this product is concerned. It is quite possibly the worst phone I have ever had the displeasure of using. Right from the word go I had problems with it. The volume on the handset is ridiculously low so much so that neither you nor the person on the other side can make out what the other is saying. Then the twin handset refused to ring and like this wasn't bad enough the main handset started doing the same a few weeks later. So the base would ring so you knew there was a call coming in but it was impossible to pick up the call since both handsets refused to acknowledge the fact a call was coming in. The buttons on the phone are quite annoying to use and menu is overly complicated.
Please avoid a huge disappointment and stay well clear of this phone...Its actually managed to put me off BT phones all together.
Rubbish phone, 2008-07-27 Well, agree with every review here.
Can't hear other person, they can't hear you, disconnects itself randomly, doesn't ring, and when it does, won't let you pick up the call.
Off it goes back to the shop.....
I am not paying £100 for rubbish
