The built-in Wireless Access point uses the Infineon Wildpass Chipset - this solution transforms your home power circuit into a networking infrastructure and a WLAN connection. The PL-85PEW is ideal for anyone who wants to extend their wireless signal coverage for Internet access or to make an internal network. Good product. It worked for me, but novices my struggle with setup., 2008-05-09
Comment: The product arrived as advertised and quickly from the manufacturer. I bought what is effectively a starter kit which was the 85mb ethernet adapter and 54b/g wireless adapter. The product is being used with a Linksys wrt54g router and various computers and laptops running WINXP, WIN2000 and WIN98.
Initial setup was straightforward plug the 85mb homplug in the socket and run an ethernet cable to the ethernet port on the router, then plug in the wireles adapter. I decided use the setup wizard on the cd which seemed to hang so, after 2 attempts, I decided to set it up myself using internet explorer (IE). This is done by typing in the IP address printed in the manual and using the password.Great I was in and proceeded to try to get the wirless adapter talking to the laptop.
At first I couldn't get the wireless adapter to work which was annoying because there are numerous dead spots in my house where I can't get a signal. As I was tired after my shift and it being almost 2 a.m. I decided to give up and try again at a later date.
Upon trying again I decided to see what IP address my router had assigned the wireless adapter again by accessing the router through IE. Changed the wireless adapter IP address to IP address assigned by the router and it worked no dead spots in the house.
OK it worked for me I have limited knowledge of setting up routers etc. but I can see why this would be difficult for a complete novice to attempt. I don't know what the custopmer service is like as I didn't need to use them.
The product would have got 5 stars if the setup cd didn't hang.
