Brilliant concept but bad design!, 2008-04-15 I purchased this in august 2007. It was fantastic to start off with. It got into awkward places, had excellent suction and a good battery life! What more could you ask for!
In October 2007 a little piece of plastic broke off it whilst emptying it. Unfortunately this single piece prevented the dustbuster from retaining any dust. I sent it back to black and decker. They said that it was a common fault and they are working to try and fix the design.
It took 8 weeks and several phone calls until we finally got it back, albeit a new one, as they lost our original one. Unfortunately this one was the same design and the same problem re-occurred after 2 months. I am sending the product back in exchange for a refund.
If the design was changed i would buy this product again as it is good value for money.
Handy, compact and good performance, 2008-09-20 One of the things I like about this model is the way the nozzle pivots to allow you to reach awkward areas and for more compact storage. I've found that if you leave it running for a second or two after use there aren't any problems with dirt falling out of the nozzle when you fold it down.
The nozzle has a pull-out extension to it which makes it even easier to get to hard-to-reach areas. And there is a little clip-on soft brush attachment as well.
The suction is good for a little vacuum cleaner like this one - obviously nowhere near as good as a full size cleaner, but then it is only meant to be used for quickly hoovering up spills, bread crumbs and for cleaning the car etc. Battery life is very good too.
In terms of value for money and performance you can do a lot worse than this one.
Dirt falls out, 2008-05-20 This is really useful for clearing up after the kids but the suction is not great for the stairs or car. The big downside is that when you rotate the arm down to put it away, the dirt you have just hoovered up falls out! Really annoying. I only use mine for clearing up spills etc and so wish I had spent the money on the dyson with its shorter battery life - I really don't need it to run for more than 2 minutes.
Poor battery life and debris falls out when finished, 2009-01-02 The internal plastic guard, around the paper-type filter, is essential. If you lose/break this, the whole thing becomes almost useless. When you've finished using it, you fold the nozzle down and place the unit in the stand-up charger, at which point some debris always falls out of the nozzle. Not a show-stopper, but poor design. Finally, and most importantly for us, the batter life is PANTS! It starts to die after about 30secs of use, until it dies altogether only a minute or two later. Therefore, quite frankly not fit for purpose. I've binned mine and am buying a mains-powered hand-held.
