we are a cricket mad and family and I found this on amazon having never seen it before

its take 20 minutes of arguing how not to throw a no ball all the time so the instructions for this could be clearer re technique but now the children are thrilled and shouting what great fun it is.
OK it wont help improve your technique but brilliant for competitive spirit.
You just need a 13 year old to set it up - adults make it too complicated

I originally thought about this as a Christmas present for my 10 year old son, but was put off by a series of awful reviews in various cricketing publcations. The his birthday came round and, stuck for ideas, we decided to give it a go.

And it has been a HUGE hit.

Many reviews commented that it was difficult to play and - yes - it takes a little while to get used to the controls, but frankly the same applies to every computer game and once you've worked out how hard to bowl and the need to keep your fingers on the buttons right through until the ball is released then it works fine.

There there are various game options, including two inings "test matches" and one day games of up to 50 over each, but actually this works best on the 10 over option. That is what maybe put off the purists.

A 10-over game can be played in about half-an-hour, which is frankly about all my bowling arm could take without a rest! Bowling is about variation and accuracy (and a shade of luck), batting all about timing - and it is the batting that is the greatest fun as the system really does seem to take into accounthow the bat is swung as well as when.

A neat feature is that you can play against each other, one bowling one batting, and without any REAL danger of hitting each other. You can also play against the compyter itself at various levels. The computer opponents have supposedly different levelsof ability, but in practice there is not that much differnce between the teams so Kenya are almost as dangerous as the West Indies.

Single games can be played, but its the tournament that is the greatest fun. Even playing 10 over per side this takes several days (you can save games at any point).

When it comes to the details you cannot change the players in the teams and the names are not real, and you cannot choose any particular bowler, for example, beyond selecting "fast" or "spin" - but really that is all window dressing. The graphics are okay - not exactlly photo-realistic but sufficient.

So forget the pinikerty reviews that pretend this is trying to be what it is not. In the end for £30 you are getting as good a game as many PC games that retail at a similar price, plus all controllers, consoles, etc. Its a good deal. Its an ideal gift for any cricket lover aged maybe 9-14. If you have such an creatue in your house buy it for them. You won't regret it.

This game is really good fun, especially once you've got the hang of the bat and ball controllers and have managed to stop continuously bowling no-balls!

The game manual says that you need to use a bowling action, but this isn't really necessary, or practical! The cable is too short for anyone over the height of about 4 feet to bowl properly (unless you want to send the console flying across the room with you on the other end!)- so I have resorted to making a throwing motion instead. This works better as the bowling controller has a weight in it that unless it is shaken strongly enough the game will just bowl no-balls all the time.

The graphics are OK - but definitely not as great as the box says - but you don't really need (and shouldn't expect) great graphics - so long as you can see the ball!

Batting is fun, but can get tiring, so I end up just playing 10 over matches.

For anyone worreid about batteries, it takes 4 AA's for the console and 2 AA's for the bat. Haven't had it long enough to work out battery life, but unfortunately you can't use rechargeables, especially not for the console as after a use or two it seems to lose power and turns black and white, and eventually you lose the picture all together.

However, for value and enjoyment for money this really is a great buy - perfect for kids (and not so young kids!) - great for distracting you from university study and the like.

Just mind the lampshades, and don't let go of the bat when you swing!

This really is a terrible design. Even after playing around with it for a while and working out how you were supposed to bowl and bat, the design of it meant that you really cannot perform either of these in any way that resembles actually doing it. The signal from the bat/ball to the receiver (with new batteries) is so weak that you are required to be way too close to the receiver for it to be of any use. My 7 year-old son is mad on cricket and would have done anything to make it work, but after only 45 mins he had given up. In fact he was so disappointed that I am here writing this review of it on Christmas day to hopefully save others from wasting their time and money as well.
