an important part of Bob Marley's history (and Peter Tosh's), 2006-01-03 Comment: This fabulous compilation seems to have utterly failed to get noticed for some reason and that's a real shame, because this is where the 70s superstar Bob Marley started to take shape - not to mention Peter Tosh, who gets some cracking tunes in as well. These tracks were recorded for The Wailers' own Wail N Soul M label between late 1966 and 1968 and issued on 7" singles in mostly tiny editions that were little heard outside Jamaica. This is the most complete compilation of this superb material to date, and the first on a major label - it's the missing link between their Studio One ska years and the much more widely disseminated Lee Perry recordings. The slower tempo rocksteady allows them to really show off their harmonies for the first time, and the songs are so fine it's no surprise that Marley and Tosh kept re-recording many of them - the original version of Stir It Up here is particularly great. If you want to check out Marley's 60s material for the first time this is a great place to start.
