Editorial Review
Amazon.co.uk Review
The long awaited release of Doom 3 sees it claiming two of gaming’s highest accolades: that of having the best graphics ever seen and of being the scariest video game ever made. The question of graphics seemed a pretty open and shut case from the moment the game was announced--this is the first new title from legendary developers iD Software since Quake III: Arena and as such it features completely new graphics technology.

The reason the game is likely to win the Dr Who award for behind the sofa gaming is in the way it chooses to use its awesome new graphical power. The game’s storyline is a loose remake of the first Doom game (from way back in 1993) but the style of gameplay is actually radically different. This is more like a first person Resident Evil than anything else, with corpses lunging out at when you least expect it and monsters scattering their innards all over the place whenever you introduce them to the business end of your shotgun.

In actual fact though it’s not the graphics that are the most disturbing aspect of the game but the sound, with every unknown noise ratcheting the tension up so much that by the time a monster actually does appear it’s almost a relief to tangle with them. Doom 3 is not for the faint hearted and that’s not a warning to be taken lightly--anyone keen on wearing oversized women’s shirts will have a coronary within minutes. But for everyone else this is exactly what the doctor ordered. --David Jenkins

If like me you played the original Doom or even one of the Quake episodes, Doom 3 will entertain you for hours! Its fast furious action will keep you on your toes and the with no cheats, light out and volume up high it may even scare the c@@p out of you too. The AI of the monsters is impressive. Only problem i can see is the high spec required to run the game. Excellent game, Recommended.

Bought this for myself, well, what can i say. Doom has come a really long way from its first ever Doom game release.
I remember when Doom 1 came out, back in the day when you had to get a mortgage to buy a decent enough pc to play these games, me i was lucky, i worked as an computer engineer at the time so mainly played these games at work using their computers, he he.
Back to the Game, Excellent, sweaty hands and brow inducing, shocking, action packed, horrific, jumpy, i could go on and on being a massive fan of First Person Shooter survival horror games, played em all, even new ones that are coming out now and this game still keeps up with them all. Some gamers no doubt would argue this point the same as zombie fans argue the fact whether they should be able to run or not, well, doubt away, put headphones on, load this game and feel the doubt slip away as the game unfolds and throws you into a complete horrific journey.
I would rate this game to definately be an all time top ten classic, even my son wont play it as it makes him jump too much! lol.
Hours of play, beautiful graphics and audio, very creepy effects. You do need quite a good graphics card or pc to be able to play on maximum effects but can be 'tweaked' to run on fairly older machines.
If your thinking about buying this, dont think, buy! you wont be disappointed but might need a new pair of trousers after playing it. lol. :0)

Most people who called themselves "gamers" in the 90's would have heard of and most likely play the original Doom. As one of the very first fps style games is became an icon of gaming in that decade. This meant that when the developers started making Doom 3 they knew they had a lot to live up to. It can be argued that doom 3 is not a squeal to the original doom but a remake, as the storyline is pretty similar. You play the role of a generic tough-guy marine sent to a mining/science colony on mars to try to figure out the source of some weird happenings only to find out that the legally dodgy company behind the colony has opened up a gateway to hell. The gameplay involves walking around very dark maze like corridors fighting the same enemies as you fought in doom 1 although now with fully rendered 3d bodies.

One really nice touch is that whenever you meet an enemy for the first time you usually do some via some dynamically scripted encounter that shows off that enemies special attacks and attributes as well as usually giving you a little scare.

This game is another example of a sequel that will be loved by people who loved the original but perhaps not by anyone else.

Having played Doom3 before and only gotten about half way throught i decided to delete the programe after i couldnt take anymore of the moand groans and screams i now find my self rebuying it why your ask??? well i will tell you eventhought doom3 is a game and your facing the screen and you keep telling yourself IT`S JUST A GAME sometimes it feels more then just a game.It seems to have tha ability to draw you in to the game mentaly after playing for 30 to 40 mins you will feel stressed, So you will save and stop but after a short while your back in it again ,This has got to be the best game i have ever Half played The graphics sounds, shadows, moans, groans, screams, whispers, Things falling down light going out zombies creeping up on you ,Walking down a few corridore`s and nothing happens then suddenly all hell breaks lose you can never let your gard down, You will SWEAR a lot in this game and jump too lololo Iv`e read a few reviews on this game and i most certnely WONT play this in the dark with headphones on it`s creepy enought in the day time. But if you like what i have said then go GET it.... If your not AFRAID Yet.... YOU WILL BE.

PS There are some handy cheats and Mods on the website of doom3 you may wana check them out as i have :-)
