Amazon.co.uk Review The Emperor's New Groove was originally developed as an epic called Kingdom of the Sun and lost scale and most of Sting's song score (some of which can be heard on the soundtrack) on its way to the screen. The end result is the lightest Disney film in many a moon, a joyous romp akin to Aladdin in its quotient of laughs for children and adults. The original story centres on the spoiled teenage emperor Kuzco (David Spade), who enjoys getting the best of his Aztecan subjects. When he fires Yzma (Eartha Kitt), his evil sorceress, she seeks revenge and turns Kuzco into a llama with the help of Kronk, her hunk of the month (Patrick Warburton). Alone in the jungle, the talking llama is befriended by Pacha (John Goodman), who has just been told to vacate his pastoral home by the human Kuzco. What's an ego to do? That's pretty much the story and the characters--simple, direct, fun--a Disney film on a diet. For any fan of the acidic humour of Spade, this is essential viewing. As narrator of his tale, Kuzco uses a sarcastic tone to keep the story jumping with plenty of fun asides (he even "stops" the film at one point to make sure you know the story is about him). Even better is character actor Warburton (Elaine's stuck-up boyfriend on Seinfeld), who steals every scene as the dim-witted, but oh-so-likable Kronk. There's even a delicious Tom Jones number that starts the film off with a bang. --Doug Thomas, Amazon.com

Time to Laugh your head off, 2009-01-21 I maybe only 22 but when I saw this movie I was laughing my head off as there is always a funny seen to it and the jokes just keep getting better as the movie go's on, this is one movie I garenty what ever your age will make you laugh, Disney you have to make more like this as this is worth watching.
AWESOME, 2010-02-27 Im 18, and when i first watched it as a child i thought it was the best movie ever and i still watch it, and laugh even more than i did back then. This movie is possibly one of my favourites which rivals even Shaun of the Dead and Pineapple Express. Utterly Brilliant!
A more recent Disney classic, 2009-09-30 Laugh out loud hilarious and fun from beginning to end for all the family.
Well worth watching, regardless of age.
My favourite Disney film, 2008-05-15 ... and one that far too many people haven't heard of. I believe that this was conventionally animated, when CGI was taking an increasing share of the market. Perhaps because it didn't have the high-definition quality of the Pixar films (think Nemo) Disney never seemed to do much to promote it.
However, what it lacked in that area is more than made up for in outstandingly funny script and characterisation - the old-school values of animation. "I've turned into a cow. Can I be excused?" Yeah, the tale is a little hackneyed - an odd couple who need to learn to get along to overcome their enemy - but it is just sooooo funny.
I have never been fussed about the "modern classics" like "Beauty and the Beast" or even "The Little Mermaid". But this one is brilliant.
Kinda grows on you, 2009-07-18 The last Disney animated classic I remember watching (and liking) was Pocahontas. The movies that followed seemed to loose their magic and never really appealed to me. Until recently.
My younger brother is going through a bit of a Disney phase at the minute and Ive managed to catch up on all the films I missed out on - mainly the final 10 or so before Disney/Pixar became the 'in' thing. And rightly so.
After sitting through Hercules (Hit), Mulan (Hit) and Tarzan (A big Miss for me) - Next on the list was The Emperor's New Groove...
The strange, new stlye/feel of this movie is a little too different for my liking and a huge turn-off at first. But if you stick with it, give it a chance and look past the 'un-Disney-like' qualities, The Emperors New Groove is actually a pretty funny movie. The relationship between Kuzco/Pacha in particular is hilarious and had me laughing out loud in parts. The villans, Kronk and Yzma are equally well-matched.
The Emperor's New Groove isn't a 'classic' by my standards. Especially when compared to some of the gems that came before it (Beauty And The Beast/Aladdin/The Lion King). It's a fun film to watch and id recommend it to others. Although you might want to check the Disney channel or borrow it from a friend before buying it on dvd.
Overall I thought it was just ok. Not the best and not the worst Disney film - somewhere in the middle. Score: 5.5/10.
