Uplifting without being sentimental - a wonderful book, 2003-03-11 Comment: This is story about people, marriage, writing, life and death.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's humane, rich and uplifting without being sentimental. It made me think, and laugh sometimes too. It reminded me of a good, old-fashioned novel like Middlemarch. I cared about and got to like all the main characters, even if they're not the kind of people I would want to go on holiday with. The description of the slow dying of Magda was brutally real but at the same time full of hope. A satisfying ending too. I'll remember this book for a long time.
