Fabulous read and great Eco-shopping guide, 2008-08-17 I have struggled with my muddy vege boxes and searched the internet for paraben free cosmetics so when I saw this book I felt it had been written for me. Kate undertakes a number of eco challenges and with the help of friend's, tests many different organic, fairtrade or environmentally friendly products. Nothing scientific, but she never claims to be. It is written in an fun and intersting way but still manages to get across the importance of buying fairtrade or organic. She very kindly lists all of the websites relating to products or organisations at the back of the book which then gives you a mini eco-shopping directory. Since reading the book I have tried 4 new products and I have a new determination to re-use and recycle. I would reccomend this book as an interesting read but hugely helpful if you would like to start getting a bit greener.
Brilliant handbook for green ideas and inspiration, 2008-10-14 This book jumped out at me on display at my local library because of the pretty cover - on closer inspection I realised it covered a subject which I have been interested in for some time but until now not found anything which covers all the basics.
The book covers Kate's own eco challenges considering being more green about the things we comsume and how we do it in everyday life.
I enjoyed the accesiblity of the subject through down to earth writing and facts backed up with easily understood references - the book had me laughing on more than one occassion and has also had me making mental lists of some of the resources which Kate provides, such as website links for finding your local milkman or veg box scheme.
I am a total novice at being green and although I recycle and try to buy fairtrade/organic wherever possible the information in the book has helped me think about how I can take it to the next level. I am already considering experimenting with making my own beauty products and will definitely be buying a composting bin. The book has also made me think hard about using cling film and changing the kind of deodrant I use...
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did, I will be buying copies of this book for my girlfriends for christmas
