Not aimed at kids - what a rip-off, 2006-01-01 This book is supposed to be 'Sudoku for kids'. However, it clearly wasn't written for children and contains only a selection of mild to moderately difficult puzzles as you'd find in a book for adults. There is a wordy and not particularly clear introduction, explaining how to work out the obvious numbers, then some suggestions for tackling more difficult puzzles. These are not written or presented for children - dense text and grey lines on a grid, and then sudddenly we're into strategies for positioning pairs and triplets which you only need to tackle the really difficult ones. The puzzles are graded at 4 levels, from very gentle to challenging. There are no child-friendly worked examples, or 4x4 grids to help them get the idea. My 8-year-old daughter has been tackling the 'Easy' puzzles from the Times Su Doku books by Wayne Gould with a little help, and I'd hoped that 'Sudoku for Kids' would contain mostly puzzles at around this level with a few really easy ones she could do with no help. However, the first puzzle in the book, labelled 'very gentle', had her stumped and was harder than the Times 'Easy' puzzles. She was so pleased to get her own Sudoku book, and so disappointed to find she couldn't do the puzzles. I've no idea why anyone thought this book should be titled 'for kids' except as a cynical marketing ploy. If you want a Sudoku book specifically for children, don't waste your money on this one - you'd do better buying an adult book and giving them the 'easy' puzzles.
Not recommended for children, 2008-04-05 There are 72 sudoku puzzles in this book. All the puzzles are 9x9 grids. The solutions are all at the end of the book. The first 4 pages contain hints and strategies for solving Sudoku puzzles. Many of the puzzles in this book are hard - definitely not for children. For simpler puzzles, check the two books "The Big Book of Kindergarten Sudoku" and "More Kindergarten Sudoku" for a variety of simple 4x4 puzzles especially designed for children.
Warning - DON'T buy this book, 2006-01-24 Don;t be fooled by the title - this is NOT a book for kids. There is no child-friendly explanation of how to do the puzzles and the puzzles themselves are really hard - even the ones graded as "very gentle"
