Shari Thurow will show you in this book that it is possible to design websites that looks nice, have great graphics and even use JavScript and such and still stay "search engine friendly". To achieve great rankings in search engines websites don't have to be text only or HTML 1.0 and you don't have to engage in questionable methods to get good results either. Just follow the simple rules set in this great book.

Personally, I would say that this books is both for people who never done search engine marketing - or search engine optimisation, before, and for people with more experience in the field. Most other books and reports I've seen focus on "tips & tricks" - this book focus on how to make things right from the beginning.

I highly recommend the book!

This book was not much help. Look elsewhere. also it is by now rather old so do not buy.

I saw Shari speak at a seminar last year and she was very knowledgeable in her presentation and afterwards mingling with delegates. Her book is just as great - in fact it's fabulous, the best SEO book I ever ordered. It's modern, up-to-date, and as something of an SEO expert already I know she's telling us the right things. If you buy one SEO book make it this one, great value for money and the methods will work!

This is a straight forward introduction to solid reliable techniques describing how to optimise the visibility of your websites to search engines. Its not glamorous and its not rocket science, but it is essential information for designers wanting to provide a professional service to their clients.
Unlike the 2 Sep 2004 review by "a customer" I think this book contains information that is essential for any designer trying to create professional websites.

It is possible that there just isn't very much to SEO. There is nothing to do with search engines that cannot be gleaned by looking on the internet for an hour or two. The rest of the book is padded out with basic web design/usability principles that can be from better sources. I know all of this stuff, what I was looking for was an in-depth, technical approach to search engines to cover things I may have missed. Unfortunately this book was not it.
