Comment: I rarely feel moved to write a review, but the excellence of this book deserves recognition. I have some intermediate experience with Coldfusion, but am not a programmer. I was looking for a book that would provide a tutorial approach to dynamic site development (there are not many around) concentrating on Dreamweaver server behaviors (I already have some knowledge of hand coding such applications in CFusion). Not being a programmer, PHP and ASP continue not to be of much of a temptation for me to learn. The book does not change my opinion on that although I agree with the authors that if you are a professional developer (which i am not) then knowledge of more than one server language is very desirable.
The book is extremely well written and flawless in content (coding, illustrations, text etc), which is not true of similar books that i have on my bookshelf on this topic. Takes you through the development of a dynamic site, including a Content Management System. There are many excellent 'professional developer tips and tricks'. There is a chapter on AJAX - this i found to be the most esoteric chapter in the book - stimulating and informative. Through this I have learned a lot about XML (which I previously thought of as a 'black art') and Spry Javascript library.
This book is money very well spent. Do not hesitate to buy it. It is very rewarding, but be prepared to do some hard work in going through the tutorials. The authors exhibit a compassionate approach to us, the students, in search of knowledge.
