I would'nt normally write a bad review, but I feel I have to warn anyone who wants to take flash design seriously and actually find it engaging, which of course leads to a better understanding. If flash was around 200 years ago this is what they would be doing with it.Fair enough it gives a basic overview of how to build a website with flash, but it only skims the surface and the actual project being built is so utterly depressing, that it's likely to put you off.Take a look at any flash site on the web and you will soon realise that this book must have been written by someone who does'nt use the internet.Do yourself a favour and buy the Phillip Kerman 24 book or the Hands on Training books.Don't waste your money on this, it's awful.

After wrestling with Phillip Kerman's Flash 8 in 24hrs it was nice to complete a project within 24hrs. This really is Flash spoon-feeding with nice big colour screen grabs and idiot-proof instructions. Don't expect to be a Flash expert after this, use it to help familiarise yourself with the Flash user interface and the steps typical for a basic website project. Helps with understanding workflow, organising site resources and importing multiple movies into one site. Great value, quick to read and easy to follow. A good confidence booster for the beginner!

I am 14 and i managed to comlete the book very easily, this should give you an idea how easy it is to use this book. The book takes you through making an florist website with easy-to-understand text and pictures showing you what to do. With this book you could get a basic understanding of:
-A flash animated website
-Some simple actionscript
-How to create impressive looking backgrounds in flash
-How to publish the site to the internet using a server
Unfortunately the book doesnt explain what some of the features does so if you want to learn a lot about what actionscript is and what it does in a website i would'nt recommend buying this book. If you are looking for an easy simple step by step guide to making a website buy this book now!

This book was suprisingly good, is quite cheap and covers most of the initial things that can prove daunting if you have never used Flash before. Don't expect too much of it. It takes an example site for a company, and has some simple animations buttons and links but does it in a simple but compelling way. I had foundered a bit with another more detailed text and was getting a bit frustrated but this got me started and now the bigger text seems OK.

If you want to get an insight into how to make a flash site then this is the book you are looking for. From start to finish its full of simple steps to make the example website.

I have some experience in Flash, i am probably rated as average, i got this book so that i could see the steps it took to make a flash site and to get ideas on structure and how pages should be loaded etc.

The problem with the book is that it is soo focused on the examples to show you how to make the website that you learn nothing else. It could easily have branched out into short explaintions of what else you could achieve by using certain tools. Or listed useful components at the end of a chapter.

Also some times you wonder why you are doing a certain step. "Change the progress bar to polled..." WHY!? I still don't know what polled is. It could do with a few more explaintions.

Saying that though, the book is cheap and will take you about a day to get though if you stick with it. It gives you an understanding of what is involved in making a flash site and will give you the ability to make a site yourself.

But i must stress that this is really only the tip of the iceberg, this book shows you how to create a functional site. It doesn't even cover importing video's.

Its good for what it is but additional reading will be needed if you wish to create a flash site of todays standards
