The best feature of RDR has nothing to do with combat, racing or winning anything. It is simply getting on a horse and riding across the most perfectly realised Wild West ever seen in a videogame. Taking on the role of former outlaw John Marston, the player will ride across the prairies of the new frontier, pass giant rock formations in Mexico and ascend snow covered mountains in the north. The game never ceases to be visually stunning and the gaming map is inhabited by wild animals and birds that can be hunted by the player.
In RDR the player can be as bad or as good as they like with the lowest honour rank being Desperado and the highest Hero. There is even a trophy for placing a hog-tied woman on railway tracks and watching her explode as a train hits her. The main story missions range from mundane livestock herding to the more exciting gang hideout assaults. Similiarly to GTA there are many side missions and minigames - accept a bounty and hunt the criminal or play texas holdem in the nearest saloon. There are four different ambient challenges each with ten levels to complete. Master Hunter level 8 involves killing a bear with only a knife. Sharpshooter level 10 involves disarming 6 enemies without reloading your weapon.
Rockstar have made a game with many unforgettable moments. Stand on a train carriage as it passes through every region on the map, gun down a gang of bandits in seconds using the dead eye targetting system or ride through the forests of the north and hear the heavy breathes of a charging grizzly from behind the camera. Any gamer with doubts about Rockstar's status as one of the world's best games developers should play RDR. This is a game few gamers will forget and most will want to replay.

Rockstar have gone and done it again! A lot of similarities to the GTA games, but enough differences to make sure it isn't just GTA in the wild west. Needs to be part of your game collection.
