Lego kick off their 2008 Star Wars series with a set from the Expanded Universe range with kit #7667: Imperial Dropship.
After the success of last years Clone Trooper and Battle Droid battle packs it's nice to see Lego continuing with more troop building box sets.
The Imperial Dropship is a small planet skimming craft with a cockpit for a pilot, wing mounted cannons and a deployable troop platform to the rear. The cockpit hinges open and closed and the rear tail and thruster assembly pivots up to allow the troop platform to detach.
You get one Shadow Trooper pilot (previously only available in 2007's TIE Crawler) and 3 Stormtroopers. Two blaster rifles and 2 heavy assault rifles finish the set.
The kit is composed of 60 pieces, not including the figures and weapons and measures 11cm long, 6cm wide and 7.5cm high at rear.
It takes about 5 minutes to build, there are 3 decals to apply and it's ready to go. A nice little kit and definitely one for all those army builders out there.

I originally bought my Mr Potato Head when Toy Story was first released 13 years ago, and its sat on my desk ever since (the peices get rearranged by just about everyone who sees it - including, I suspect, the cleaners!)
Now, I've taken it home so that my two year old can enjoy it - hows that for recycling?!
Its not very often that you find a toy that is educational, cheap and well made, but Mr Potato Head ticks all the boxes.

At last, a version of the iconic TARDIS to scale with the current releases of the 5 inch figures.
An absolute must have for any collector or kid to play with, this great reproduction of The Doctor's ship is packed with features that will delight young and old alike.
Both doors on the front open and there is even the telephone inside the left door. They can be locked open and reveal the TARDIS interior. There's just enough room inside to fit figures of The Doctor and his Companion.
The best feature of this TARDIS though are the lights and sound effects built in. The Police Public Call Box signs on each side all light up and the glowing lantern on the top flashes appropriately, depending on what the TARDIS is doing at the time.
There are 8 sound effects in total.
When you open the doors the interior lights up and you get the sound of the TARDIS humming away.
There is a pressure lever in the base that registers if it's landed or flying and will make appropriate sounds when necessary. There's slow take off, take off and emergency launch, landing and emergency landing.
There's a spin button on the base and by placing your finger on it and spinning the TARDIS from the light on top it makes the flight sound which is rather cool.
The final sound is a bit tricky to coax out of the toy. If you shake it once (and only once!) in flight you get a flight disruption noise, but it's quite difficult to get the sensor inside to register this one.
All in all, a great fun toy for kids and adults and no Doctor Who collection would be complete without this toy.

I was lucky enough to get this at half price. My 6 yr old son thinks its brilliant as he is into Bakugans. However it is pricey and so are the marbles that you have to have to play the god dam game. It isnt that sturdy but it makes those pricey marbles seem a bit more worth it when you have a battle! I'm sure given a few months another fad from school and tv will be on his wish list! Having said all that he loves it,lol

Hasbro release their first vehicle from the new Clone Wars movie with the very impressive All Terrain Tactical Enforcer - the AT-TE. Although these were seen in Attack Of The Clones it's taken 6 years for this amazing combat walker to finally be released.
The AT-TE is massive, loaded with play features as well as electronic lights and sounds. The electronics require 3 AA batteries but it is still impressive without the effects as a model in its own right. The battery compartment is in the underside with a screw in plate.
Standing a massive 27 inches long (from upper mortar tip to aft cannon tip), 16.5 inches wide (across central feet) and 12.5 inches high, the AT-TE is an imposing addition to any Republic Army.
The front cockpit canopy opens upwards and there is room for one figure - a Clone Trooper with red insignia on his shoulders is included. The cannons on either side of the cockpit move in unison but can be set at any position and each fires a missile by pressing the button on the top of each gun. The large upper mortar cannon has a firing missile and with a press of the switch on the back parts of the gun light up and there are sounds for the cannon firing.
The sides to the front body open on either side to allow access to the four seats which are tucked away in a row inside, each one with its own computer display.
With a press of the button on the top of the back (with accompanying deployment sound effects and a Clone saying "Move out! Let's go!") the aft body opens right out to allow access to the troop compartment. The sides and roof deploy themselves and the roof goes right back down to ground level with steps on the inside so the troops can deploy quickly.
There is room for up to 14 Clone Troopers inside and there are storage racks for their DC-15Bs and a couple of compartments for electro-grenades. Twelve stand in the crew racks and two man the aft guns. Like the forward guns, these can be set in almost any position and each has a firing missile.
The six legs on the AT-TE are all poseable and allow for maximum range of movement, vehicle permitting, for playability. For kids, there are wheels that can be put in the bottom of each foot so they can simply roll it across the floor.
Apart from the lights on the upper mortar cannon there are three buttons in the middle at the top which have a variety of sound effects.
The left button has walking sound effects.
The middle button (which cycles through the following) has a Clone Trooper saying: "All forward positions are advancing.", "Approaching droid perimeter, we are undetected.", "All units fire at will!", "All units attack!" and "The Droid Army is in full retreat."
The right button (when pressed quickly) has blaster cannon sound effects. The right button (when pressed for a bit longer) has a Clone Trooper saying "All units fire at will!" followed by rapid fire blaster sounds.
There are nine decals to apply and away you go. The AT-TE is great without the sounds but kids will get a big kick out of all the effects.
An absolute must have for any Republic Army or any discerning Star Wars collection!

Great Fun and Very Durable, 2008-08-27
I purchased this for my daughter's fifth birthday having been put off the interactive WALL-E which is very flimsy and I would highly recommend it to other parents thinking of buying it, the transforming controls are a little stiff the first couple of times but after a couple of hours my daughter was opening him up and putting him back to 'sleep' fairly easily.
He is very durable having been bounced around the floor alot and played with constantly, also he's adorable!
