Decent OS; I have no desire to switch, 2008-10-17 Frankly, I love Vista. While the minimum system requirements are higher than XP, they are by no means unreasonable, and the result is an OS that's easily as fast as Linux or OS X, and one that is much better laid out as well.
Small touches abound. The start menu has been condensed into one box instead of opening a potentially gigantic list of programs, and discrete info and link boxes are peppered throughout, making it infinitely easier to slip from one related task to another. A particularly nice touch is that the address bar showing your folder location includes a drop down arrow for every folder you've had to go through to reach it, with a list of all the folders contained within them, meaning that you can navigate back through into another folder with ease. It is much like the layout of OS X's folders in that respect, yet compresses it into a much more compact and just as functional design.
Functionality is a mixed bag, but usually for good reason; some old programs will find themselves unable to run on Vista's version of their dependencies, but the vast majority of programs can be made to run with compatibility mode. By this point Vista compatible drivers are standard, and shouldn't present a problem at all. Moreover, troubleshooting problems is vastly improved; with wireless problems in particular, XP was notorious for clamming up as to why it was refusing to work, resulting in a protracted search for a solution. At worst Vista is able to angle in on the general area of the problem, and at best will offer a direct fix. It's a hell of a lot better than the previous Windows favourite, 'dump everything and start over'.
Perhaps I'm simply used to the old Windows problems, but Vista hasn't presented any particular problem for me. Viruses have been very rare, crashes infrequent and mysterious errors few and easily solved, usually by Vista itself. The OS hasn't been a barrier to user accessibility as previous Windows versions have been, and the streamlined design works like a dream. And as always, the sheer popularity of Windows means that it comes out top for overall compatibility with the biggest range of file formats, software and hardware, from the most common to the most obscure.
Be warned: User Account Control is the most horrible invention known to man, comprising a 'security feature' that essentially asks you if you want to execute the program you've just clicked on, every single time you open it. You WILL learn to just click through it automatically, rendering it useless, and you WILL hate it. Make sure the first thing you do before anything else is to head into Control Panel and turn it off. Otherwise, I'm happy to say that Vista is an excellent OS, much better than XP and a perfectly acceptable contender to both OS X and Linux. It depends what your want from your machine; nonetheless, it would be a mistake to overlook Vista as being another buggy version of Windows.

Give it a chance !!, 2008-10-23 Accept it will take some getting used to if you are used to using Office.
Accept it is set out differently.
Accept, it is easier to use once you have used it a few times - everything is set out for you. Many of the features are now more accessible - once you've got used to the new format !
I like this version. A real pain in the butt when transferring between older versions of the Office packages - as you have to manually save it in compatibility mode or it is unreadable. But other than these few inconvieniences - I like it and prefer it. It does not take too long to get used to, but you do have to use it to learn it ! :) !

PACIFIC FIGHTERS - A VERY WORTHWHILE SEQUEL TO IL-2, 2006-12-09 When I purchased IL-2 months ago, I got it cheap and on offer with another sim (namely Silent Hunter II), and I expected it to be a simple, un-detailed basic combat flight sim as I believed then, nothing could beat Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator series, now I know how wrong I was, so very wrong. I had not heard much about just how good IL-2 was, but when I installed it and flied - it was stunning... it was just outstanding. Now, Oleg Maddox and his team have added the even more absolutely stunning Pacific Fighters to the series.
I now have owned and been flying Pacific Fighters for about a year now, and not once has my opinion of it changed. Despite the fact I had to suffer several weeks before I could properly play the game - the wait worthwhile when I finally could play it. The wait was because I had to upgrade almost all the computer hardware to run it - at a hefty cost of around 100 pounds, but then again, our PC was of the simple, non-mass game playing kind, but as I said - it was worthwhile. The game continues on the excellent quality IL-2 gave us, with additional enhancements, no matter how subtle. The game runs very smoothly - if you have the capable hardware. The scene is set, as in the name of the game, in the ferocious Pacific Theatre of the War where many unstable battles unfold between the brave Allies of the Americans, British and Australians/New Zealanders and the fearless Japanese. There are around 40 flyable/playable aircraft (actually, there are only about 20 or so completely different aircraft, it is the great range of different marks and versions which ups this number) each and every one with wonderfully created models, flight models, and beautifully authentic and realistic cockpits. Just a few of these aircraft include the American P-38 Lightning, P-51 Mustang, Vought Corsair, the British Supermarine Spitfire and Seafire, Hawker Hurricane, Bristol Beaufighter, and for the Japanese - Mitsubishi A6M Zero, Kawasaki KI-61, Aichi D3A1 Val and even the Mitsubishi G4M1 Betty.
You can fly in several different campaigns involving all the nationalities and continues the ingenious dynamics and intelligence of these campaigns that we see in IL-2. The game interface is fairly easy to use and is almost exactly the same as the IL-2 design. If you own, or are going to own (as am I) IL-2 Forgotten Battles and the Ace Expansion pack, (as well as IL-2) then you can merge them all into one awesome, seamless WWII combat sim. The scenery also matches the overall quality of the game and includes the best default water we've ever seen yet (if you have the capable hardware). The scenery also differs depending on where exactly you're flying. The sound quality is fairly well designed, although it is nothing spectacular. It also includes as standard the online combat and multi-player functions for even more fun. There are a few basic flaws, which can be fixed with a few official patches that also add additional aircraft etc. to the game.
Overall it is an awesome game and a brilliant sequel to the uniquely outstanding IL-2, and if you have the other programs at hand, it can create one damn awesome WWII combat sim... and make a perfect present!!!
UNDOUBTABLY ONE OF THE GREATEST COMBAT SIMS THAT EVER EXISTED - IF YOU'RE EVEN A BEGINNER TO COMBAT SIMMING - GO FLY IT NOW!!!
Thank you for reading my review.

Super!! , 2007-08-21 Althought this game is a little expensive, I think that it is the best game so far, unlike in Game 4 you are perfectly able to wonder around the grounds and you can find yuor way round easily with the Marouders Map.
At some points the game can be a little tricky, For example when looking for the POtions book for snape it says look in the library but the restricted section is not counted, the book is hidden in a dark corner which makes it even more difficult to find.
I loved the game and can't wait for the next one.
It is really worth trying
