The Katie Melua Collection" is an overall compelling selection of Katie Melua's best songs so far.
Among others there are "What A Wonderful World", a great duet with the deceased singer
"Eva Cassidy" and naturally one of the most popular songs "Nine Million Bicycles"
The 17 track collection also includes three new songs.
The up-tempo track Two Bare Feet", which will be released on the 27th October as single,
the melancholic-poetic composition "Toy Collection" (which was written by Katie for the MySpace film `Faintheart') and the blues-song "Somewhere In The Same Hotel".
Unfortunately my favourite song "What I Miss About You", a result of a collaboration with Andrea McEwan is only seen on the DVD, which includes a 90 min. live show, filmed in Rotterdam during Katie's 2008 tour. On this tour Katie Melua was supported by Andrea McEwan, whose debut single "Candle In A Chatroom" was also released recently. (Have a look at it! It is recommended for all friends of "jazz-pop / folk"-music).
The DVD includes a very interesting video-blog "Behind the Screens", showing the preparation of the tour this year. (by B. M. Powell's "MelvilleB" & MichaelWSt)

Ignore the miseries, this is a really good rockin' album. I have kind of mocked these guys for years - yet having heard this CD I am amazed how many of the tunes I actually know and really like. You'll probably be the same. What more can I say? It's cheap as chips. Give it a listen. Hell Yeh!!!!

Songs For You, Truths For Me

Songs For You, Truths For Me

Artist: James Morrison

So he's the acoustic-troubadour-James that isn't James Blunt. He's the other one--the one that looks a little like Chris Martin from a distance and who with those two vague affiliations was surely always pre-destined to sell an awful lot of records, even if he was equally condemned to relative anonymity by turning up too late to claim credit for his own image. And if he failed on debut album Undiscovered to distinguish himself all that much from The Other James, particularly with fluid lighter-waving singles "You Give Me Something" and "Wonderful World", then follow-up album Songs for You, Truths for Me is out to redress that. The underlying soul heritage that served as a reference point on Undiscovered but never really pushed to the fore is much more prominent, seen especially as the album blasts opens with groaning, piano-spanking, brass-heavy, Hammond-tinged "The Only Night", something like The Counting Crows do The Commitments, with unmistakable similarities to Aretha Franklin and George Michael's 1987 blockbuster hit "I Knew You Were Waiting". It's the kind of thing you can imagine him winning a Brit Award with, probably with a collaborative performance to boot. "Nothing Ever Hurt Like You" takes those influences to the lounge, "Precious Love" is Otis Redding via Ray LaMontagne, and the Nelly Furtado-featuring "Broken Strings" is a breezy, stirring pop song. Even when he falls back on his debut's established strengths, this is a more than adequate showcase for his powerful voice. --James Berry

If you thought this fella's debut album was good, wait until you hear this! For me this album is a big improvement on his first album. Every song on this album is excellent, apart from 'Dream On Hayley' which doesn't do anything for me. Heck 11 out of 12 good songs ain't bad! All the other songs are worthy of being released as singles.

Incanto

Incanto

Artist: Andrea Bocelli

Incanto is the first studio album from Italian operatic star Andrea Bocelli since 2006's Amore, stop-gapped of course by last year's Vivere. Now twenty albums deep and heading for 70 million sales worldwide, there doesn't seem to be much Bocelli can do wrong, though perhaps key to his success is his refusal to rest on his laurels--to always present a considered and varied selection of material. On Incanto he again offers a well-selected mix of folk songs, operatic evergreens and musical hits. Opening with a stunning collaboration with singer Veronica Berti, "Un Amore Cosi Grande" ("A Love So Great") the album gets off to an impassioned start. A romantic thread is weaved through "O Surdato Nnammurato", Cesare Andrea Bixio's "Mamma", and "Voglio Vivere Cosi", while album highlights include Neopolitan classic "Santa Lucia" and the 19th century folk song "Funiculi Funicula"--an ode to the first funicular on Mount Vesuvius. Add to that the soaring "Because", and the sweeping "Era De Maggio" (featuring Anna Bonitatibus) and you have what is arguably Bocelli's best collection since Romanza. --Danny McKenna

How wonderful that Andrea has left the "Vegas type" songs behind!! This album is superb and we listened to it 3 times in succession before stopping. Every song (old & new to us) was up to the high standard we expect and love to hear. These are the type of popular semi-operatic songs that Andrea can sing so much better than old Englebert hits!

Year Of The Gentleman

Year Of The Gentleman

Artist: Ne-Yo

If the mark of the skilful Lothario is the one who knows to always tell his lover what she wants to hear, surely Def Jam's R&B sensation Ne-Yo--aka Los Angeles singer-songwriter Shaffer Chimere Smith--is one of the greatest of them all. On third album Year of the Gentleman, Chimere channels his hitmaking talents into a suite of R&B songs that more respectful than rampant in their approach to the romancing. "Single" is a song that reaches out to all the lonely girls, Ne-Yo promising "I'll be your boyfriend til the song goes off", while the Stargate-produced "Miss Independent", lit up by neon synthesisers, suggests Smith isn't too concerned with his own machismo to test out flipping the traditional gender roles, serenading a girl who's a player in her own right: "Everything she got, you bet she bought it". The album is at its best with the central, two-song movement of "Why Does She Stay" and "Fade Into the Background"--the former, Ne-Yo questioning his own neglectful nature over a backdrop of shimmering keys, the latter a sombre piece that finds our narrator accepting the news his lover has found another with a rare, heart-rending magnanimity. --Louis Pattison

Greatest Hits

Artist: Enrique Iglesias

Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5 All his hits and more!, 2008-11-03
First off you should probably know that as well as this 1-disc edition, there will also be a 2-disc CD/DVD edition released in 2 weeks time (November 17th). This 1-disc edition has an exclusive Hero remix that, as far as I know, will not be on the 2-disc version.
All Enrique's hits are here from Bailamos right up to Somebody's Me and besides the Hero remix there are two more new songs, Away which is a ballad featuring Sean Garrett and the up-tempo Takin' Back My Love featuring Ciara. Also on the album is the Euro 2008 song Can You Hear Me which didn't get released as a single in the UK so will probably be new to most of Enrique's British fans.
The new songs fit well amongst the established favourites like Hero, Rhythm Divine, Escape and Tired of Being Sorry and I strongly recommend this album to anyone who likes Enrique, whether you're a long-time fan or only just discovering his music.

My copy of this album was pre-ordered and arrived today (Sat 15th Nov).

The orchestrations on this album are amazing (The Amy Winehouse Band amonst others) and hat's off to the sax players. Russell really shows that he can tackle any type of song, from the upbeat Papa was a rolling stone (I defy you not to get up and dance!) to House of the Rising Sun, which at 8 minutes, is my favourite track. It's stunning, I never realised just how low Russell could sing, WOW.

Add to this the fact that you can hear in his voice that he's really enjoying what he's singing and you have a superb album that proves that he can not only sing operatic arias, but can get on down and rock!

Slipway Fires

Slipway Fires

Artist: Razorlight

Most bands ripen and transcend their earlier selves, eventually. But for Razorlight the onset of maturity has been particularly rapid. It’s like they got on the bus with their debut Up All Night, all tight jeans and scrappy attitude, winging a child’s fare and yet by the time they sat down they were in comfy slacks, pulling a financial supplement from their jacket pocket for light reading and asking the kids at the back to pipe down. Their eponymous second record unapologetically disposed of the fervour and sense of place of Up All Night, pursuing instead a universal sense of melody and more generic themes. It is this vein that they build on with Phase 3, aka Slipaway Fires, and having already engaged the mainstream, Johnny Borrell now makes a big play to be prompted alongside some of the greats. With the sentimental piano balladry of “Wire to Wire” and “The House” he positions himself between “Don’t Look Back in Anger” and Elton John. On “You & the Rest” and “60 Thompson” he goes after Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan respectively. The eye-openers are exaggerated cliché “Tabloid Lover” which is like The Who, Queen and Roxette forced into a space too small for them all and “Stinger”, arching soft rock ballad with a perm. It’s an ambitious project in advancing the Razorlight template and sometimes it probably pushes too far, but a glimmer remains throughout and Slipway Fires won’t be the record to halt their ascent. --James Berry

A Little Bit Longer

A Little Bit Longer

Artist: Jonas Brothers

The Jonas Brother's second album--2007's Jonas Brothers--proved beyond doubt that the New Jersey trio can get beyond the Disney clichés and write songs of above average calibre. A Little Bit Longer, the band's third outing, continues their harmonic forays into the teen-rock market, offering an upbeat selection of tunes notable for their catchy hooks, fuzzy guitars and bouncing grooves. Opener "BB Good" sets an energetic pace, kept up via songs like (first single) "Burning Up", the soaring "Tonight" and the sugar-coated punk of "One Man Show". Mellower moments come courtesy of the Jack Johnson-esque "Love Bug" and the title track, a song about Nick's struggle with diabetes. A Little Bit Longer might not push particularly hard at the creative boundaries, but then no one expected it to. The Jonas Brothers remain the undisputed kings of highly polished, teen-friendly pop rock--until their formula starts to break, they surely don't need to fix it. --Paul Sullivan

This is the third album by the Jonas Brothers, and it definately does not dissapoint. All the tracks are extremely diverse, from the guitar laden openers "BB Good" and "Burnin' Up", to the slow-tempo closer "When You Look Me In The Eyes". Even the bonus track "Live To Party" introduces new sounds. Not one song sounds the same, and the range of influences and sounds is so eclectic that you'll find yourself listening to this album over and over again without getting bored at all.

It's definately an album to buy!!
