Just beautiful!, 2008-11-26 I bought this as a Christmas present for someone else but I just had to put it on my ipod before I wrapped it up! Silent Night (which I had missed the first time round) is just stunning. Beautiful music - you won't be disappointed

Bette Midler
A classic Bette selection, 2008-09-23 Another classic album from the Divine Miss M. Bette Midler has always been one to mix up her repotoir a bit, and record different styles such as ballads, rock and roll, boogie woogie and even Disney. It's this collection that heaves all these styles together on one volume. Like her other Greatest Hits albums, released in 1993, and again later on in 1996, The Best Bette has the Bette Midler standards the world knows and loves her for (Wind Beneath My Wings, The Rose and From a Distance). The album also contains other Bette standards from her earlier career (From The Divine Miss M : Hello in There, Do You Wanna Dance?, Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy and Friends)which she still performs today. There is also a rare, never released track witten by the great lady herself , "Something Your Heart Has Been Telling Me". My only problem is that I think more songs could have been included, such as "To Deserve You" from Bette of Roses and "Favourite Waste of Time" from No Frills, which both appeared on the 1996 release of Experience The Divine. But all in all, a great collection of one of the greatest artists on earth, and a BEST BETTE for any fan of Bette, or just great music in general!! :D

John Barrowman
John Barrowman Woof Woof Woof, 2008-11-24 Ok im not exactly a non-biased judge as i LOVE John Barrowman, but this is a fantastic new album from him, including the wonderful version of I know him so well with Danny Boys (as seen on TV "Live at the Faenol Festival" last week!). Its also got his excellent single "what about us", -showing he can do songs OTHER than showtunes, and a host of well known favourites. Its perfect for xmas, -everyone can sing along!
I hate Uptown Girl with a passion, so even if he sung it in the nude i wouldnt listen to it, but apart from that a triumph all round!

Voices Of Angels, 2008-11-28 Listening to this album has been a spritual experience for me. Ave Maria and Pie Jesu are my favourites, but you don't want to skip any of the songs on the album. All songs are beautifully recorded and absolutely captivating. I will listen to this album for a very long time.

Andrea Bocelli
Incanto is the first studio album from Italian operatic star Andrea Bocelli since 2006's Amore, stop-gapped of course by last year's Vivere. Now twenty albums deep and heading for 70 million sales worldwide, there doesn't seem to be much Bocelli can do wrong, though perhaps key to his success is his refusal to rest on his laurels--to always present a considered and varied selection of material. On Incanto he again offers a well-selected mix of folk songs, operatic evergreens and musical hits. Opening with a stunning collaboration with singer Veronica Berti, "Un Amore Cosi Grande" ("A Love So Great") the album gets off to an impassioned start. A romantic thread is weaved through "O Surdato Nnammurato", Cesare Andrea Bixio's "Mamma", and "Voglio Vivere Cosi", while album highlights include Neopolitan classic "Santa Lucia" and the 19th century folk song "Funiculi Funicula"--an ode to the first funicular on Mount Vesuvius. Add to that the soaring "Because", and the sweeping "Era De Maggio" (featuring Anna Bonitatibus) and you have what is arguably Bocelli's best collection since Romanza. --Danny McKenna
Brilliant!, 2008-11-06 How wonderful that Andrea has left the "Vegas type" songs behind!! This album is superb and we listened to it 3 times in succession before stopping. Every song (old & new to us) was up to the high standard we expect and love to hear. These are the type of popular semi-operatic songs that Andrea can sing so much better than old Englebert hits!

Tom Jones
Long qualified for a state pension and generally recognised as a national treasure, Tom Jones is in no need of an unnecessary makeover, which is probably why 24 Hours turns out to be such a relaxed collection. Relaxed is a relative term for the Welsh veteran--Jones still bellows like a man trying to make himself heard over a rowdy crowd. But the best moments on 24 Hours, such as a terrifyingly spirited take of "I'm Alive", originally performed by Tommy James and the Shondells, and first single "If He Should Ever Leave You", a rather knowing if undeniably catchy pastiche of the supper club soul that made his name, could only be the work of one man. The stark title track enters Nick Cave territory while "The Road", a heartfelt if somewhat overdue apology to Jones's loyally obscure wife Linda, will either repel or seduce. The louche "Sugar Daddy", penned by U2 no less, rather exalts Jones's reputation as an ageing lothario, even as he seems determined to shake it off. The odd clunker aside (notably the rather naff "In Style and Rhythm") 24 Hours, produced by Future Cut, a team of studio bods half his age, is an enjoyably effective collection, filling a previously unnoticed niche between Duffy and Solomon Burke. --Steve Jelbert
Tom at his best, 2008-11-17 This album will be played for many years to come! Great vocals, great songs - try it you might just love it!

Salvation Army
The Salavtion Army Together, 2008-11-29 A good mixture of religous and popular music. William Booth said "Why should the Devil have all the best tunes"?
Why should he the Band get over their message and it is easy to listen to.
The Salvation Army I belive are making the money not the record company.
My wife said she could listen to it easily and she is not a brass band enthusiast.
Look forward to the next one.

Katherine Jenkins
Sacred Arias is Katherine Jenkins' last album in her deal for Universal before she moves to Warner for another six-album deal, and she has decided to go out with a bang--albeit a quiet one. While her previous outing, Rejoice, saw the Welsh mezzo-soprano striking out more than ever towards the world of pop, Sacred Arias, as the title suggests, sees her return to her religious-classical roots with comfortably familiar tunes like "Abide with Me", "Ave Maria", "Pie Jesu" and even "Silent Night". The mood on Sacred Arias is as refined and peaceful as you'd expect given the title, and though there's an abundance of well known material here, Jenkins also offers us the more obscure charms of "Missa Criolla", a dreamy version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" and a soulful take on "Down in the River to Pray". Other classical pieces include "Panis Angelicus" and Barber's haunting vocal piece "Agnus Dei", which help make this a triumphant final flourish for both her and Universal. --Danny McKenna

Russell Watson
People Get Ready, 2008-11-15 My copy of this album was pre-ordered and arrived today (Sat 15th Nov).
The orchestrations on this album are amazing (The Amy Winehouse Band amonst others) and hat's off to the sax players. Russell really shows that he can tackle any type of song, from the upbeat Papa was a rolling stone (I defy you not to get up and dance!) to House of the Rising Sun, which at 8 minutes, is my favourite track. It's stunning, I never realised just how low Russell could sing, WOW.
Add to this the fact that you can hear in his voice that he's really enjoying what he's singing and you have a superb album that proves that he can not only sing operatic arias, but can get on down and rock!
