Sugababes
The sixth chapter in the life of Britain’s most indefatigable all-girl pop group finds Heidi, Keisha and Amelle facing a new generation of female pop competition. The question: to take on modern soul songstresses like Duffy and Adele at their own game, or turn up the glitz and war it out from the dancefloor? Catfights and Spotlights hedges its bets, which is to say it does a bit of everything. Luckily, it does it mostly well: the opening “Girls”, a horn-led pop-soul number is mostly shallow and unconvincing, but “Sunday Rain” is a tear-stained, vintage-flavoured torch song with husky vocals and rolling piano, and a handful of songs penned by Britney/Robyn songwriter Klas Ahlund are smart and original. “You on a Good Day”, in particular, stands out, a stomping Northern Soul number dealing with the predicaments of a dundering partner: “That’s you on a good day/Disaster is always just a beat away/But I’m sticking with you anyway”. The album highlight, however, comes with “Side Chick”, fluttering R&B from the perspective of the girl that won’t be shared, fatalistic about the prospects of getting her man, but too in love not to try. --Louis Pattison

Britney Spears
Better than Blackout, 2008-12-03 Although I now really like Womanizer, I felt that it wasn't as good as many of Britney's other first tracks off an album eg. Baby One More Time. My cd arrived today from Amazon and after listening to all the songs, I feel it is by far Britney's best album. Although a couple of the songs I feel are 'album tracks' - Lace & Leather, MMM Papi. There are some really standout songs like Circus and Out From Under.
I was also impressed that Amnesia was track number 14 because it isn't listed as being on the CD on Amazon.
Overall, the album proves Britney's back!

The Pussycat Dolls
Lovin this album!, 2008-10-21 The second album from the pussycat dolls, doll domination, is, i think better than the first album PCD. The album is made even better with credible people such as missy elliot and snoop dog featuring on the tracks. It has a good mix of both upbeat and then more chilled songs throughout which means you cant get bored with it. My personal pet hate is an album filled full of cheesy sounding ballads but even the slower songs on this album have a more contemporary feel to them. Probably the worst track on the album is perhaps, perhaps, perhaps (a cover) they did a cover on their first album of baby love and i didnt like that either. It just sounds like something you would hear on a cruise. Apart from that the rest are good songs and the album is good money considering that is had eighteen tracks in all. Enjoy!!

Her best album, and the best by a female this year!, 2008-12-01 I think this is probably her best album, and the best by a female artist this year.
It's a really good pop/R'n'b album. If you like Rihanna or Madonna's Hard Candy, you will love this.
The extras are great, rock me in is a great track that you get extra on this deluxe edition.

Ting Tings
The debut album by Salford's The Ting Tings comes hot on the heels of their No.1 single "That's Not My Name", a nugget of pop gold that comes on like a genetic splicing of Toni Basil's "Micky" and The Knack's "My Sharona". The bulk of We Started Nothing follows a similar formula, navigating a path between the smart, angular indie of CSS, Bonde Do Role, et al and the pop mainstream. Here and there, they pull it off perfectly: the stutter-rap of "Fruit Machine" sees vocalist Katie White leading on some poor sap with sultry charisma and lip-gloss sass, while the excellent "Shut Up and Let Me Go" is snappy dance-punk in the spirit of Blondie's "Rapture" or Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love". Elsewhere, they branch out with mixed results. "We Walk" builds from quiet flourishes of piano into a surprisingly steely manifesto: "Smash the rest up/Burn it down/Put us in the corner cause we're into ideas", sneers White. Rather less good is "Traffic Light", a light, jazzy number that employs a number of somewhat forced driving metaphors to describe a relationship hit the skids. Still, it's a debut with promise, and a string of good singles is nothing to be sniffed at. --Louis Pattison
Fun, 2008-10-09 I can't believe I bought this. When I first heard the Ting Ting's I thought they were dreadful. It sounded like really naff cheesy pop. And it is, but it's also very catchy and I have to admit I like it. The more I hear it the more it grows on me. It's not cool to like it, but that doesn't mean it's not okay to like it. It's just probably best not to admit it to people when you first meet them. That's Not My Name is probably the best pop tune of the year for me.

Truly brilliant selection, 2008-11-17 Yes yes, Ministry of Sound put out plenty of albums, particularly classic ones, and seem to get plenty of flack in the reviews (!), but honestly this is brilliant. I was given Anthems I for Christmas last year, and that was pretty good, but this follow up is even better. Mostly because it digs out some of the brilliant but not often seen tracks like DReam, S Express, New Order, Orbital and Billie Ray Martin.
Discs 2 and 3 seem to be chronological as well, but it really is big tune after big tune, great if you buy only one dance album. Faithless, Livin Joy, Modjo (what a track!), Olive, Stardust, the list goes on.
I'm lovin it! Couldn't recommend it more...i'll be getting it for people for Christmas...

Mariah Carey
the ballad princess., 2008-10-19 First of all, nobody on this earth can produce a ballad like Mariah, such a controlled voice. I am not the first to point out about the disappointment on the track listing of this release, but none the less still smacks punches too any other female release this year, it certainly deserves top marks for the pure genious strength behind the vocal. On a personal level i would prefer to see a release of the ballads that didn't get a single release here in the UK. I wouldn't have included The Roof or All I Want For Xmas, i would have personally chosen Whenever You Call and Oh! Holy Night and the solo version of Against All Odds. But am happy that Open Arms is allowed to shine one more time. Mariah's still got it, and this release shows why she is the biggest selling female recording artist EVER!!, and everything else released in the 90's should bow down to this compilation of ballads.
