- Sturdy all metal construction
- Free heat from old newspapers
- New Improved Sieve Design for years of reliable service
- Easy and safe to use - just soak the paper, place into the mould and squeeze
- Logs will burn as well as wood for up to an hour at a controlled rate in a fire grate or woodburning stove
Solid and suprisingly effective, 2008-02-10 I've used this gadget to make a few briquettes, and I'm pleased. They are currently drying next to my wood burner, so i can't yet comment on their potential as fuel. A few plus points; (1) decent sized, solid, chunky briquettes from unremarkable amounts of paper - it's not like the paper disappears to nothing and you end up with a rubic's cube's-worth. A newspaper goes a long way! (2) soaking the paper doesn't have to be too arduous, paper was ready for squashing overnight with a bit of bleach to help it along.
On the other hand, if you don't have an industrial sized shredder, be prepared for the fact that ripping the paper up takes a while. I found that soaking the paper first, then ripping, then putting into a bucket with bleach was easier on my wrists. Of course, if you're buying this gadget you are probably braced for a bit of effort in your recycling. It's certainly more fun than filling the council's black bin.

- The remote control allows you to switch the living colours lamp on or off, brighten, dim or change the colour effects from anywhere in the room.

- H:20cm
How trashy does the description of this thing sound?, 2008-09-29 I heard about this lamp and dismissed it as a trashy cheap sounding toy, but I was in Dublin recently and saw one in operation in a philips shop. It was actually kind of nice and because you can turn down the intensity of the colours a lot, it really manages to create a lot of different moods.
When I got it back home it was even better, in the evenings, in our white painted apartment, it could totally transform the look of the place. Light blues, deep greens, or hellish deep red, whatever the colour or intensity you want with the remote it only takes seconds to get it.
The lamp is nice and heavy, although a little top heavy, and the guy in the shop told me there was a stand for it but there was nothing in the box. The design is very Apple, and the remote is gorgeous even on it's own, with the glossy white finish and round spectrum to play with. It's also not infra-red, so you don't need line of sight with it.
I thought the price was pretty high, but now I'm starting to convince myself that one or two more wouldn't be such a bad purchase. Very recommended!

Kenwood
- Large chopper attachment & balloon whisk
- 2 Speed operation with pulse
- 400 watts
- Unique storage system
- Durable stainless steel blades
Absolutely LOVE it, 2008-10-15 I absolutely love the kenwood wizzard, I bought it about 4 months ago after breaking my old braun one (it fell out of the top cupboard & shattered on the floor!) I use the wizzard daily to make home-made baby food, I have been using the blender section for smooth purees and have now progressed onto the chopper attachment to introduce texture to the baby food. I cant comment on the whisk element as not had cause to use this yet. Would definately reccommend to anyone.

Great slow food, 2008-07-19 I'm a fan of slow cooking and have several slow cookers in various sizes. I see from other reviewers that this particular cooker has divided opinion. I find that this one performs very well and doesn't seem to me much different from other slow cookers in its level of heating. One thing I would say is that the recipe leaflet with the cooker doesn't mention slow roasting as one of the things that you can do in it. The booklet implies that everything has to be immersed in liquid. Ignore this. I roast all sorts of joints, such as rolled should of pork or lamb. Slow roasted duck legs are particularly succulent done this way (brown the skin a bit in a frying pan and then about and hour and a half on High followed by a couple of hours on Low). In general, it's very flexible about timing and you can juggle between heat settings. I tend to start early with an initial period at High or Medium for an hour or so then switch to Low at which most meat can very slowly cook for ages. Whole, small chickens are delicious slow-roasted, but use High for most of the time and preferably check that the thick part of the leg has reached over 80 degrees centigrade to kill off any salmonella. I've just experimented with some rather tough beef back ribs that are rather tough when roasted, fast in a conventional oven, but were very tender in this slow cooker. I browned them a bit (as a rack) in a frying pan and then transferred them the pre-heated slow-cooker with about 200ml of hot beef fat. Two hours on Medium, plus 2 hours on LOW: result, succulent beef ribs. I've done something similar with pork ribs.
I always pre-heat slow-cookers if I'm adding hot liquid or fat with the meat.

DKB Household UK Limited
This fabulous new product by Jamie Oliver is aptly named the 'flavour shaker'. Comprising of three components, this handy gadget is ideal for making salad dressings, sauces and marinades. The shaker features a handy non-slip grip and a ceramic ball inside that crushes and grinds the ingredients as it is shaken. Made from toughened plastic, the flavour shaker is going to be this Christmas number 1 gadget.
· Flavour Shaker by Jamie Oliver · Made from toughened plastic witha ceramic ball that crushes and grinds the contents when shaken · Ideal for making salad dressings, sauces and marinades · Recipe booklet included · A great gift for the cook who has everything · Dishwasher safe (on the top rack only)
Use a pestle & mortar, 2008-06-26 My girlfriend got me this for Xmas 2006. It works OK, but is a pain to clean and/or get all the bits out to actually use them. This is especially true if you are mixing up your crushed herbs with, say, olive oil. Consequently, I have used it only a handful of times and always revert to my good old-fashioned pestle & mortar. I have always been quite a fan of Jamie Oliver, but The Flavour Shaker strikes me as a cheap commercial gimmick.

Tefal
- Replacement filter cartridge for the Tefal Quick Cup
- Buy 2,4 or 6 and save postage costs (contact us)
I love my Quick Cup, 2008-03-03 I am only writing this review because of the slightly misleading nature of the other review.
The instruction manual suggests a new filter every 6 - 10 weeks depending on the water in your area and how much use the device gets. But the machine will operate without a filter at all and just because the light suggests a new filter after 2 or 3 weeks you don't have to get one.
I have had mine since Christmas and love it (especially good if like me you use coffee bags - bag in Mug press button walk away come back 5 minutes later), everyone who's seen it wants one!
I live in a hard water area and only now after 10 weeks am I about to purchase a new filter.
