This is a really easy to use machine. I have replaced my Tassimo with this one and it is far better. The drinks area actually hot!

Really easy to use, no mess. The only thing is that the pods are quite expensive and I have not seen any multi buys on them. But the machine itself is great.

I am only writing this review because of the slightly misleading nature of the other review.

The instruction manual suggests a new filter every 6 - 10 weeks depending on the water in your area and how much use the device gets. But the machine will operate without a filter at all and just because the light suggests a new filter after 2 or 3 weeks you don't have to get one.

I have had mine since Christmas and love it (especially good if like me you use coffee bags - bag in Mug press button walk away come back 5 minutes later), everyone who's seen it wants one!

I live in a hard water area and only now after 10 weeks am I about to purchase a new filter.

I had read the reviews and decided that this was what I was looking for,but it was out of stock. Got the email when it was available again and bought it quick. You should not be disappointed with this item, it is well finished for the price and makes excellent coffee each and every time. The design makes for easy cleaning with just a wipe usually, had it a month now and would really recommend it as the best machine for under £75.

A great first machine - Tips for those who are unsure, 2008-08-06
For all of you who are unsure if this is a suitable machine and have read the negative reviews posted here let me assure you that this is a GREAT starting machine.

Having read all the negative reports I can safely say that their issues can all be avoided by, like all tools, learning how to use it properly.

It makes great coffee in about 5 minutes. Yes the machine's heat up mechanism takes 30 minutes but my making a 'blank' coffeeless shot (or two) first this heats up the whole machine faster and better as well as the cups and makes for a better and HOT coffee.

Crema is acheivable, even by an amateur, I managed within a week of use! The steamer makes hot and firm froth in no time.

The Key is to do the 'blank shots', tamp the coffee, use good ingredients and experiment with what you like best!

An excellent purchase and I would agree with all those who have already posted laudatory remarks.

Can I just add 4 observations

To those who want to know how many cups it provides - We get 295 ml of strong brown liquid from the 6 cup machine ( c. half a pint ).

It takes about 4-5 mins to make the coffee - from absolute start with cold water to drinking coffee. Just enough time to microwave and then foam up the milk using the bodum 1446 device.( we exclusively drink lattes )

Mild-to-firm tamping down is mandatory and crucial to taste - despite the instructions. We use the bottom of a glass tumbler

As regards using finely ground coffee - we don't have a grinder ; we buy Tescos Finest Columbian Supremo ground coffee and its fine.

Coffee is one of those things that for some reason I cannot do - even instant coffee is beyond me! Seeing my guest's faces as I serve a perfect latte is just hilarious - there's no way I could ever do this without my Tassimo!

This is a great little machine and a big improvement over the old Tassimo machine. This new model machine is more compact and of a higher build quality than the old one. It has a larger 2litre water container which is now much less fiddly than before and can be very quickly removed/refilled with zero effort. You can prepare about 8 drinks before having to fill up the tank.

The hot drink is now prepared immediately with no waiting for the machine to warm up, it now takes 45 seconds from cold to prepare a standard drink - compare this to a kettly boiling which takes about double that time just to heat the water. A second drink can also be prepared immediately after the first without delay.

The quality of drinks is very high, it produces the best at-home hot chocolate that I have ever tasted! This maybe because the hot chocolate is made from syrup rather than the more commonly used powder. The coffee is also great and comes second only to freshly ground coffee - please remember it takes several minutes and a much more expensive machine to prepare coffee from scratch - this machine does an excellent job immitating those machines! I have not tried the tea so can not advise on those flavours.

The T-Discs (pods) themselves vary in price and flavour from brand to brand. Just standard Kenco coffee costs £2.99 (at Asda, Tesco etc) for 16 servings. This prepares a good regular tasting coffee at under 20p per mug. This is the same price for Twining's tea and Suchard's hot chocolate. For something a bit more fancy you can choose latte or cappucino from various brands including Carte Noire, for £2.99 or sometimes £3.49 for 8 servings which works out at 40-50p per cup. These items require 2 discs and so take a little bit longer to prepare.

Overall I would heartily recomend this Tassimo machine to any potential viewers but I must quickly point out a few of the pitfalls.

- You are limited to what coffee/tea/hot chocolate you buy - this is true of other pod coffee machines, but the Tassimo does have a very good selection to choose from.

- The portion size is too small for some people - hot chocolate is only 180ml. Latte/cappucino is 200ml. While most coffees are 300ml.

- Requires some cleaning (but not much)

A rather expensive toy for all coffee lovers but as I am miles from a coffee shop ( no names there but u know who I mean) I just had to have it. I spent more time deciding on the colour to choose than to set it up and make my first hot choclate. It is large, the water tank looks easily broken so will fill it from a jug instead of taking it to the sink and the top of the tank looks as tho it might easily be lost (it is loose). It is perfect for someone on their own who just needs to make one cup instead of boiling a kettle each time and also perfect for people who like differnt types of coffee. A great buy which will be in use every day. I recommend it ( and just now Nov 08 the pods are free with an Asda coupon) which makes it free to run.

Heat the milk in the micro for 1 minute before giving it a good pumping... result: fantastic froth, enough for two generous cups.

It does the job it is intended for. V good indeed.
