- 1080 Upscaling via HDMI
- JPEG, DivX version 6 & MP3 Play
- Composite, Scart & HDMI Output
- XDE technology
Great upscaling player!, 2008-12-08 I find the upscaling prowess of this player to be awesome, giving a superbly detailed picture, much better than I was expecting, and representing fine value for the money.
I also find the controls/buttons on both the player and remote to be quick and responsive; no problems at all.

- LG DVD PLAYER
- MP3 PLAYBACK
- IN BLACK AND SILVER
- 1 X HDMI CONNECTION AND 2 X SCART CONNECTIONS
Works for me, 2008-09-01 I wanted a 1080p dvd player to make full use of my 1080p LCD TV.
This one gives you a choice of resolutions including 720P & 1080i as well as others. As I Linked it with a HDMI cable it knew I wanted 1080P . Sound quality produced is excellent.Picture much improved with dvds and I have sky HD so suitably impressed. This is comparing it with a much older LG HDD DVD rec player I already had, same width but a lot slimmer and half the depth but quality build and appearance. Don't lose the remote as controls on the player very basic. Good value for £50 .Has scart composite and optical digital output. All in all, a neat compact attractive unit.

FANTASTIC-Great for Downloaded music/films with no messing, 2008-08-09 I bought this specifically because I like to stream my movies and music from my PC (saves messing about with discs etc) I used to have my media files on my external harddrive and stream them from my Laptop to my Home system, but was alot of messing about every time (plugging everything in etc). I have also has wireless media players etc but again found them to be unreliable and dont always want to have to have my pc switched on to view anything, as we're all power conscious now coz of price rises). I read about this having a USB input and bought it.
I now simply plug my external harddrive into the USB port, no wires, no messing about. You do need to have a powered harddrive though, as the USB port does not give enough power, my external harddrive was bus powered, but I solved this by spending £6 on a mains powered USB hub, and now it works a treat, I simply plug my Harddrive into the hub and off i go.
It has played all my movies and music with no problems so far. One thing that could be improved would be some form of search feature to search your media files, as its hard to find what you want if you have alot on there, but this is minor and would/has not put me off.
I now have everything I want to watch or listen to in one place, without having to have a separate device to be able to do so, with only one remote control and no extra cables. It does take a little while to index all of the files for browsing on your tv, about a minute or so, but this depends on how many files you have i suppose.
I have given this 4 stars, and missed off the 5th coz of the lack of search feature. You can add items to a 'program list' which acts as a playlist, but you cannot save this list for future use, you can however save the 'progam list' if you have copied your music to the dvd recorders internal harddrive
Definately recommend.

Well Worth It, 2008-03-27 I grew tired of looking for a dvd player, reading as many reviews as possible and still not coming up with any answers. I bought this particular one having read a review on this site from someone who bought this model express delivery to use on a flight next day. We were also going to fly next day with our young daughter. I can honestly say the picture is fantastic the small control button on the screen is so easy to use and allows you to skip, play, pause and volume without having lots of buttons for little fingers to push all the time! Our flight was only 2hrs but the dvd was fine and showed no sign of dying. I'm yet to establish how long it will last but we had it set to quite a high volume setting because our daughter is to young for headphones. The bigger screen is well worth the extra money but as the other review stated buy a seperate case because the one supplied is very thin and is more a dust cover if anything. For those like me who are buying to keep children happy and do not know anything about dvd players, you will not be disappointed with this one.

Works for me!, 2008-09-20 I've had this dvd/divx player for a while now and after reading some of the other reviews here decided my review was long overdue.
To answer some questions that have previously been asked:
*There is a fast-forward and rewind function on this player - the arrow buttons pointing left and right either side of the 'OK' button on the remote control work very well and there is a choice of 2x 4x 8x 16x and 32x (on my player anyway!)
*Slow motion playback is available by pressing the up or down buttons above and below the 'OK' button.
*Resume play is available - It will resume if you hit the play button briefly while the disc is loading (when the word "loading" appears on your screen) - the words "Resume Play" will appear on screen and your DVD will pick up where you left off. It works for the last 5 discs you played.
*The multi-region hack previously posted here works fine.
*I've had no problems playing any variation of xvid/avi/divx or mpeg file either on disc or via the usb port
Firmware upgrades are available via the Philips website
Anyone buying this model I recommend you 'google' for a site called phunkyfish - there's a lot of useful information on there about this player and some non-philips firmware upgrades which may be useful if you play divx (note: not recommended by Philips and may affect your warranty) I personally have installed the 'Porkupan Firmware' and find the additional features really useful.
This player may not be the most up to date or even the best but it does everything I want and more for a very reasonable price. It suits my needs brilliantly. The usb port saves me a fortune in discs! I've had this player a while now and would recommend it to anyone.
My one criticism - the remote has a really limited range and would have driven me mad if I didn't have a universal remote control which incidentally works on code 0539.

Great, considering, 2008-12-13 Went from a Samsung to this model and this is a giant leap in comparison.
Clear pictures, easy recording, freeview no problems, lets me plug in a usb stick (!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Great stuff for the price. I found the negative reviews here slightly fair - it's not for advanced users. Cheap but very cheerful. It's simple to set up and has a quick boot up time. Really, really like this machine.
