A joy to use, 2008-11-10 I bought this to go with a Panasonic 42" Plasma. The upscaling on DVDs works well and I've no idea how blu-ray could be '4 times better'. The recorder is easy to use and there are significant improvements in this compared with an early model. I particularly like the 'series record' function and the way it saves all the episodes of a series in a group folder with just one click. I had a good experience with the free delivery from Amazon of both items - but had to shop elsewhere for a Cambridge HDMI cable - worth getting from Richer Sounds.

Panasonic
- HDMI 1.3 with Deep Colour
- Super Multi Format Record & Play
- Viera Link
- VHS Refresh Dubbing to DVD
- Accurate Record & Schedule Change
Very good but not great, 2008-08-04 I bought this recently so have not seen its full potential. However, playing DVDs and old videos, produced very good results and in the old videos I saw lots of detail I had previously missed on my old sony VCR player.I watched Pan's Labyrinth on it recently, through my panasonic 37 inch plasma and I was amazed at the colour and depth ,it was at times almost 3D. Overall I am very pleased with it and I wanted a combi because I still have a big collection of VCRs, I've just not yet replaced with DVD.If I was paying for A DVD recorder only, at this price, I would however expect more.

Sony
- Multi-format DVD recording and playback
- Jpeg, MP3 and DivX playback
- Up to 24 hours maximum recording time on Dual Laye
- 1080p upscaling
- Progressive output
BARGAIN RECORDER FROM SONY, 2008-11-23 This machine represents a fantastic bargain, with a quick start up, HDMI and decent play back (also applies via Scart). Although it has only as analogue tuner, Sky etc can be looped through and recorded from using channel line 1. If you're after a no frills recorder but want quality, useability and reliability, this model should be on your shortlist along with the likes of Panasonic's DMR EZ28(dearer but freeview).

Toshiba
- DVD/-R/-RW/RAM/+R/+RW & VHS
- Pause Live TV
- Simultaneous Record & Play
- DivX, MP3, JPEG Playback
- 8 Day EPG
overall great value, but..., 2008-11-12 It does all that it promises.
I know nothing of Sky + or whatever, so can't compare its recording function for ease-of-use. I've found it all easy to use so far. It's very quick and simple to set it to record to HDD a program by just choosing it from the daily listings on the Freeview menu.
However, as I think someone has pointed out on a forum here, I'm very surprised there's no way to record (to any format, VHS, HDD or DVD) one channel and watch a different channel at the same time. Yes, while recording TV you can watch an already-recorded medium (on VHS, HDD or DVD), but nothing live. This is especially odd as this machine boasts two TV tuners, one digital, one analogue. So what's the point if you can't use both simultaneously? (Of course while the machine's recording from a TV channel you can primitively switch your TV onto it's own (non-video) channel, but in the case of our old TV that's not good quality... And why should I have to find this poor solution with such a nice new video machine?)
My 2nd slight disappointment is I'm sure not unique to this brand or model, but I guess it's a similar story with any modern DVD recorders. One reason we wanted a VCR player and DVD recorder combi was to transfer a few of our much-loved well-played old video tapes onto DVD. Is this "pirating"?? Perhaps, but so be it; purely for our own personal use, before the (irreplaceable) video tapes finally snap. But even trying to dub from some VHS tapes the machine pipes up "copyright material - though shalt not copy". I dunno, these new-fangled machines are too smart for their own good sometimes...
These gripes aside, this is a super video recorder for a great price, and no qualms at all about choosing it.

Panasonic
- Super Multi-Format Record/Play
- 1080p Up-Conversion
- Easy Operation with VIERA Link
- MP3, Divx & JPEG Playback
- Intelligent i/p Conversion
Simplicity, style, brilliance, and performance!, 2008-09-11 This item is excellent! From unbelievably easy set up to recording accurately in less than 5 minutes!
Excellent interface, guide, intuitive control, superb picture performance and stylish slim design!
DVD RAM recording allows chase play (watch whilst still recording a programme, or watch one recording whilst recording another!
Sound too is excellent via optical digital out, and upscaled picture performance via HDMI is really very good indeed at this price point.
This machine replaces an ageing Panasonic DVD Recorder (DMR ES520 with Freeview but no HDMI or Upscaling), and it clearly is a vast improvement on that good machine in almost every area.
It serves as an extremely worthy extra digital recording option above Sky HD (my main system), and I can now record 3 digital programmes simultaneosuly! Will I ever get up off the sofa?
It responds much quicker too, so a faster processor is in evidence, which enhances and smooths the process of setting timers, playback etc.
DVD + or - recordings are easily 'finalised' for playback on other DVD's so no compatibility problems (other than with DVD RAM which is Panasonic specific and best used therefore for daily not to be archived recordings along with it's ease of use and facilities which are similar to Sky Plus)
Highly recommended! Panasonic deliver, and Amazon excel again in terms of price, delivery and customer service.
You simply can't go wrong with this machine, and this supplier!

Humax
- 320Gb Hard Disc Drive Recorder
- Upto 200 hours recording
- Twin Tuner
- HDMI upscaling
- *Subject To Reception Confirmation
Does What it Says On The Box, 2008-11-20 Humax PVR9300T Humax PVR-9300T 320GB Twin Tuner upto 200 hours of recording, HDMI upscaling.
Regarding the noisy fan mentioned in another review, this has now been sorted by Humax there is a slight noise but nothing to bother about. Set up and running in half an hour
I exchanged my Topfield (I had 3 all with problems) for this Humax, it is better and cheaper it has a good handset better displays and in my opinion easier to use. The upscaling makes a difference to the picture. The hand book like most nowdays could be better but most operations are commonsense.
Hoping it proves reliable, only time will tell

Fantastic Product, 2008-10-09 I bought this product and ordered it and an 8GB USB Stick at the same time, and then noticed that it only addressed 4GB from the reviews, however when I received the Toshiba, I plugged in the 8GB USB and it worked fine.. I bought the Flash Memory 8GB USB DRIVE, from Amazon and it works perfectly.

Great kit, 2008-11-29 I bought this on the strength of other Amazon reviews, and I have to say I'm not in the least disappointed. The picture quality from the Freeview was immediately so much better than I'd been used to through my old LG recorder. I didnt realise there was such a world of colour out there! The unit is quiet, a doddle to setup, and though the manual is a little hefty, you hardly need it. I felt like I'd had it for years within a day. The recordings are excellent, both on HDD and DVD, and dubbing from one to the other is a breeze.
I've had this unit a week, and so far, there's no downside.

QUALITY GEAR, 2008-11-13 Already owning a couple of Panasonic DVD Recorders I didn't hesitate in purchasing this model.
Alas there was a minor fault on the one I bought, but it was replaced by Amazon within 3 days.
I am very pleased with it and like most will not use all facilities on the recorder, but I do like being able to record a complete series by selecting the first episode and then just clicking a button.
HDMI upgrading of picture quality is superb
Very Pleased
