Sony BDPS550 Profile 2.0 Blu-ray Player

Fast and accurate - A finished product., 2008-10-11
This is my second Blu-Ray player, the first being a SONY-BDP-S300. This player far exceeds the S300 in many ways. Firstly speed, the S300 was very slow to start up and load discs. The S550 is as fast as a DVD player.
Audio is much improved, the HD codecs can be bit-streamed via HDMI to an amp or sent to the amp through analogue cables with the S550 doing the decoding.
The machine uses an ethernet connection to update its firmware and also for the BD-Live function that supplements disc features with online content. The system set up my network connection automatically and very quickly. No problems. A cheap 1Gb card is included for this feature.
Build quality is good but the depth of the machine is possibly too slight. It looks like a set top box.
The setup menus are excellent and intuitive.
The 24p output is improved and seems smoother on my 1080p TV.
This machine feels like a finished Blu-Ray player rather than a prototype like my S300. Recommended and great entertainment.

Listen folks, I have 2 pairs of these and they are without doubt the best sounding low-mid priced headphones I've personally ever had.
What you have to do though, to get the best possible sound, is to make absolutely sure you have the right size buds fitted. They come with 3 sizes, I'm an average sized bloke but I needed the large buds. If you don't test for the right size, you will end up wondering why lots of people rave about these cans.
How to test ?
What you need to do is fit each set of buds, play some bassy music, then push the headphones gently into your ear until they sit snugly, then gently push them til as far as they can go. If you notice an increase in bass while you've pushed them further than they would normally sit in the ear, then the buds you've chosen are the wrong size. You'll know you have the right size bud when you hear no (or very little) appreciable difference in bass while performing this test.
Like I said, I'm not a big guy so I started out with the small buds, which left me thinking "where the hell's the bass?" Same happened with the medium buds. It's only when I got to the large buds that I realised this is the whole point as to why Sony include 3 bud sizes.
Listen, the bass isn't the deepest bass you're gonna find, but it's certainly very good. What makes these cans good is their overall sound quality.
Sure they're a bit flimsy, but hey, I've had mine for 2 years now and haven't had a problem. It's how you treat them that matters.

Excellent picture quality and sound and as big as you'll need in a small living room.

Some reviewers have complained about the KDL26V4000's ability to tune to a weak Freeview signal. The digibox I had with my previous TV was never able to pick up Freeview using our existing elderly aerial. This set has located it with little problem however.

Gives a fantastic HD picture from freesat too. Pity that Sony don't make a freesat box which can be controlled with the TV remote.

I was slightly worried that it would be vulnerable to the attentions of our toddler, but the heavy metal base is quite enough to stop it falling over even if pushed, and the on/off controls are located on top of the set where she can't reach them.

Bought these speakers for my Sony Ericsson Walkman phone - good value at under £18. Being a genuine SE accessory, they seem to have really tuned these little beauties to work with their phones. The connection is a dedicated one for SE phones w Walkman/media players - please check they're compatible with your phone before getting them!

They come in a hardy clear plastic carry box that's about the size of a small spectacle case, are light and easily portable, and materials used, build quality etc are top notch.

You get brilliant sound quality with decent aural range out of them, amazingly they don't use batteries, instead drawing their juice from the phone. The wiring also serves as the antenna for your phone's radio, and reception is really clear. Volume is decent, but not having their own power supply does mean their sound level does top out at a satisfactory, rather than spectacular level. Still, perfect for overnights in hotel rooms. It's great to travel light with only 3 items for short trips - phone, charger, and speakers - rather than phone & charger, psp & charger, sound dock and batteries.

Highly recommended: when these arrived in the office and I tried them out, three of my colleagues with SE phones were so impressed with the sound quality and simplicity of them that they promptly went online and bought them too.

I bought my Sony NAS-E35HD from Currys because at the time Amazon had none left..I paid £299 but got a free Sony DAB radio..(not in stock..so waiting for a phone call to collect)
I must say I'm very happy with the Sony ..It looks great...has a nice glossy black finish..casing feels thick and not flimsy..
The display is big..very easy to read..
Sounds very good via the speakers..very very good
for a 'micro system!.although listening on headphones it isn't quite as good as the Ipod or Sony NWZ-A829 walkman (which is excellent and better than the Ipod )
the one gripe I have is that when copying onto the hard drive via CD or radio it is recorded in only MP3 128 bit rate quality..I would have liked to have been able to record in some form of lossless format like Apple Lossless or Windows Media Lossless or even PCM from CD
When it comes to copying music from a Sony MP3 player via the USB port the manual is a little vague..it says that the music is copied using the same format and bit rate as used in the MP3 player ..I hope this means that if you record onto the MP3 player using Windows Media Lossless then it will be recorded onto the hard drive in the same high quality
Apart from that slight niggle I think this is great and well worth the asking price!

SONY MEMORY STICK PRO Duo with Adapter 4Gb

This memory stick is really good. It can hold so much media on it. I have 96 mp3 songs, 700 standard resolution photos, about 10 game saves, 40 themes, and 1 hour of video clips, and i still have 3221MB left (thats only 1/6th full) i think everyone with a p.s.p should buy this while its so cheap.

Excellent DVD drive, and very fast at both reading and burning. Be warned though, this is IDE and not SATA. I purchased one of these for my older PC and it worked great, so purchased another one to use on my new PC, which didn't fit, as it only takes SATA drives, so I decided to sell it. Be caferul and check your drive type first! Other than that, a great drive!
