These are by far the best earphones I have ever owned and iv had a few (shure EC2, UE superfi5 EB, Bose triport inear, etc). I just listen to music; I don't make it, edit it, or produce it so I don't need to have earphones like the equivalent Shure or UE that are too clinical and pernickety. These are warm but clean earphones that just make the music feel better. These are also so small and light, the UE equivalent bass tuned earphones look so stupid but these are actually very smart indeed.

The bass is very deep as is advertised but it is not dominating or muddy, all I had to do on my iPod was set the EQ to off and the balance was perfect. The mids are punchy and strong and the highs are crisp and tidy. they made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up once more to the dire straits, sultans of swing, a very demanding track if you want it to sound great.

They are not the best in the world but of their price range? I think so, with such a big feeling open soundstage and strength across the frequency range I would not recommend anything else for under £100. Just another great sennheiser product.


PS. They blow the ultimate ears superfi5 extended bass out of the water, if bass is what you're after set your EQ up and plug these in.

Recommended upgrade, 2008-08-15
I wanted to upgrade my MX 500 headphones, but didn't want the kind of 'phones that go slightly more into the ear itself (like Sennheisser's CX series) - because, like many people I don't find this style comfortable. So, I wanted good fitting ear pieces, quality sound and all at a reasonable price. So, I took the plunge and purchased a pair of MX 660...and so far I've have been delighted with them.

The sound quality is definitely an improvement from the MX 500: bass is more `present' and the clarity is superior. The ear pieces actually fit my ears a bit better than my MX 500s (which had a tendency to fall out), but - like the MX 500 - they have a volume adjuster from the lead - which is very handy when using it with an Ipod.

In summary I would recommend these without hesitation. (Why not five stars? Well, they are very very good, without being amazingly mind blowing. There has to be some room for improvement).

I've used Sennheiser radio mics professionally for some time in my video business. They're superb and well priced. So are these excellent headphones. Lovely sound and you can hear ambient noise around you at the same time. Makes it safer out on the street.

But the best thing is the comfort and sound quality. For around £15. Bargain! And if you have ears like mine ordinary earplug headphones are uncomfortable and fall out frequently.

I like my Sennheisers. And I'm told, reliably, that they look cool, too!
