A neat, highly-portable external CD/DVD writer (plus Nero 9 Essentials), 2010-02-03
The last time I bought an external DVD writer it was longer and wider than a housebrick and of a similar weight. This little marvel couldn't be more different.

At just under 16x14x2cm approx, it lives up to its 'slimline' name and is a sleek, compact little unit that fulfills its promises. To use it, simply plug it into the USB port (one port or two for extra power) using the Y-shaped USB lead provided and it loads immediately using Windows XP/Vista/7. It is supplied with Nero 9 Essentials but can be used with any suite.

Although the PC specs list minimum 1.6GHz processor, mine works fine with the 1.2GHz Intel Atom Z520 installed in my Acer One 751 netbook.

Build quality is good but the casing is wholly plastic and quite brittle so it probably wouldn't survive being dropped or knocked about too much. It would be a good idea to allocate a pocket within a netbook/laptop carry bag such as this Belkin Bag for Netbooks or similar if you're planning to use it on the move.

The first thing i've got to say is WOOOW, pleased to say so far so GREAT! lol. The design and slimness are perfecto, I'm only running this amazing tv through an old aerial i found, expecting only to receive channels 1-5 but was amazed it picked up the freeview instantly, thinking i'd have to go and sort out a digital aerial as freeview hasnt previously worked here. The upscaling is incredible on the freeview and standard DVDs, its really true after previous reviews mentioned about it, I didnt have to mess with the picture setting at all and the motion plus runs real smooth on it.
I've also got it running through my PS3 and the picture quality looks AMAZINGLY sharp, we have a 60''LG plasma in the front room, up until now that was the best HD tv i'd seen, the SKY HD picture is amazingly sharp on it especially the footie and movies on the LG, so its only a matter of getting the multiroom hooked up. If the standard dvds & freeview & ps3 look this good im sure il be in for a treat when SKY HD is set up in my room.
As for the sound i was expecting it to be real bad, but to be honest its not as bad as mentioned on the reviews and even if it was, surround sound can always be hooked up to it, so that hasn't been much of an issue for me.
All i can tell u is don't hesitate its worth every penny, this by far is the best tv on the market and amazon are offering this at a better price than most high street stores, and the delivery was on point came earlier than expected. i haven't yet tampered with all thes features like the widgets but at some point i shall, Its my first Samsung purchase and im very pleased with it, more than. ;)

Like others I was wary of the problems others have had with Wireless Installation. I am happy to to report that I followed the included Samsung Network Installation Guide to the letter and installed the printer without problem. I use windows7 and a netgear wireless router. Well pleased with the printer.

This is an absolutely stunning monitor and at a pretty good price for a 120Hz model. It worked straight out of the box when plugged into a Windows 7 64bit system, requiring no installation of drivers just an adjustment up to 120Hz from within the display properties.
Bluray movies look absolutely stunning when played through this monitor and when accompanied by the 3d glasses, games leap out of the screen at you. A fantastic purchase and one which I highly recommend to anyone looking for a 'future-proof' replacement monitor.

Samsung N140: Great buy, 2010-03-10
It's been a couple of months since buying this product, enough time to settle in and the N140 has really been a revelation. This is a truly smart bit of kit that is brilliantly convenient. I generally use a high-spec (recent) Sony Vaio laptop as my main PC but I have found myself opting for the Samsung most of the time now. Fantastic.

The battery life is great, enough said. The wireless speed when surfing is fine but a bit stuttery if graphic content is particularly high; the wifi connection is very stable and doesn't drop out at all (unlike the Vaio, in fact). In terms of hardware what you get for your money is perfectly clear from the outset in all the reviews and from Samsung's website, so previous criticisms like "it hasn't got a CD drive" and "it's only the basic Windows 7" are unfair, there's no excuse for poor research.

Setting up the machine is very simple, just let the netbook carry you along. The only real decision you need to make is what proportion to partition the hard drive (50/50 is a default offered to you during setup and is perfectly ok). I needed to install some specific software so I bought an external CD/DVD player (£25) and I upgraded Windows 7 when I felt I needed to (online and straightforward).

You need to manage your own expectations if you are going to use the external drive to play DVD movies ... come on, it's a netbook with a small screen not a cinema. I bought the memory upgrade (2Mb RAM from the "other customers also bought the following ..." feature); it took 30 seconds to remove the old and install the new memory and is a very cost effective upgrade.

Word processing is a dream, email is simple, Skype or similar using the integral webcam is magic, I've developed complex Powerpoints too despite its small screen size and so on. I use the N140 whilst travelling and also around the house. It's hard to over-emphasise just how convenient the N140 is. Great product.
