It's hard to write a review of my 40W4500 objectively as I also purchased a Sony Blueray player and Sony Home Cinema system at the same time. So for example I have no idea of the sound quality of the TV is as I have never heard it, it always sends the sound to home cinema system.

So what do I know?

The picture it displays when from the aerial (in built FreeView) is great it must be upscaling the standard TV picture and it does look great. I have the same experience when it recieves TV from my hard drive recorder via scart.
The picture on DVD is harder to judge as the DVD player does the upscaling, but interestingly I watched my mates, 6 month old Tosh play blade runner on my Sony Blueray player and there were lots of articfacts or shadows or what ever you want to call them, that is stuff like shadows and the like on the picture that are not in the movie. This TV plays the movie with out any rubbish getting into the picture.

We are delighted we went all Sony as we only need one control (any of them!) to control what ever we are watching.

Setup was simple, you just screw it to the stand and start plugging the cables in. There is an auto setup to tune the TV etc.

So as far as I can see this is a great product.

Ordered last Friday and arrived next day at 11am at £150 cheaper than the high street stores! Picture and sound superb, and auto tuning makes life very easy. IMHO this is the best 32" set I've seen.
Update 2/11/08: Now have Sky+ HD and the quality of picture received on a) normal broadcasts is excellent & b) HD broadcasts totally amazing. If you are thinking of taking the HD Plunge, then you won't be disappointed by the superb qualities of this Television.

not long had this quite pleased with this not noisy plays back divx/xvids ok certain dvdr discs it dont seem to like setting up is a breeze epg can be a bit slow playback of dvds is excellent but i really would recomend this because the ease of setting it up to record to hdd and editing/timeslip features

Top of it's Game, 2008-07-12
Wow, this thing is just so far head of everything else. It's a gorgeous bit of kit , & not too slim , like some of the compacts, but it is still small. The Titanium coating on the stainless steel body is gorgeous & makes it tougher & more scratch resistant.The menu system is a dream plus very easy to use. Having just upgraded from a "Big"Fuji 6800 that I bought in 2000, this seems tiny & hi-tech. Other than all the mega pixels , the main draw point for me was the inclusion of an optical view-finder which can extend your shot capacity per battery charge by having the screen off. The Fuji had one , but it is almost impossible to find a compact with one these days. I hate composing your shot on the screen, I must be old fashioned I guess, but I love having the big screen to browse through the menu, & what an array of options.Black & white was a new one to me but one I hope to use a lot , as I like to draw, & to draw in pencil from a B & W subject matter is far easier to transpose to the correct shades. Smile recognition is a sticky one though & I have a feeling this may not work all the time, but then again who knows ? Overall ? WOW ! Brilliant. Top Dog.

Sony 10 Pack 60 min DVM Premium

Great value, works even in my HDV cam, 2007-10-08
I have used numerous brands of miniDV tapes over the years and have been sticking to these Sony ones for at least the last 2 years, firstly because these are great value, secondly I have not had any problems so far.

I actually upgraded from an ordinary Panasonic DV cam to the all new Canon HV20 Hi Def cam this year and still use these tapes in the new cam to record Hi-def footage! Yes, you can buy specialist HDV tapes, but they cost more. These normal Mini-DV tapes work just fine recording HDV footage. Obviously I can also record normal DV footage onto these tapes as well.

I am no expert in HD recording, I have no idea what advantage of using proper HDV tape is, surely there must be some reason. But for my casual use, I am happy to just still with these ordinary mini DV tapes. I may try the proper HDV tapes when I have an important event though.

All in all, I have no reason to switch to a different tape yet.

Cracking little unit, 2008-08-28
I bought this system to replace a similar one by an inferior make (iSymphony) and it's exactly what I wanted. It has great sound, although I'm not using the speakers that came with it, it's connected through my AV system. Unlike the previous system I had there is no audible buzzing noise when the power is turned on which is why I needed a new unit. The CD turntable is silent which is another bonus.

As for the DAB aerial issue (see other reviews) I found the supplied length of wire gave me perfect reception for 5Live, Planet Rock etc by just running it straight up the wall in some trunking.

If you have an iPod and are looking for a unit to dock it into in order to play tracks and charge the player at the same time you will be more than happy with this system - and it's a good price too! I found the remote is easy to use as the controls for using the iPod are exactly the same as on the player, it's just a wheel system with a button in the middle.

Simple, stylish and not expensive. Got to be a winner!
