simple avi/divx player, 2008-12-19 Love this dvd player, if like me you want to watch films without burning onto disc this dvd player is excellent for that purpose, using a 8gb san dick cruzer usb stick and have found no problems so far. On the other hand if you are serious about your gadgets then you should probably opt for a more expensive one. Would defo recomend to the average not so serious about sound and picture quality type of person, a cheap does what it says on the tin dvd/usb/avi/divx/etc player, well worth the money.

Brilliant dock., 2008-02-13 I am really pleased with this product. I am using it with my 3rd gen Nano, and the sound quality is excellent considering its size. It runs on batteries or mains and also charges the iPod. It all packs into a lovely little bag which makes it ideal for travel.
Don't hesitate, get one.

Great features, and some poor ones, 2009-01-03 Its a solidly made unit, no creaky joints or flimsy finish on this, it feels weighty & well constructed. The sound quality is quite good, not top of the range, but the Bass Boost & Surround Sound work very well. The included features are comprehensive, and mostly work well. There are some "subscription" services on the internet radio, but you can ignore them. The "Music Broadcast" and "Music Follows Me" features I found quite useful.
But the WACS does have some fiddly/poor features. The wireless metworking is a pain to set up, took me hours & I work with computers. The centre WIFI symbol was showing poor signal, so I spent a while trying to improve it, but in fact it had a good signal all along, its just the display shows it does not ! The station does loose connection to the centre sometimes, but it does come back. The worst feature is the CD ripping. As a test I ripped a CD on the streamium = 15 minutes ! On my PC it took 2 minutes to rip AND transfer over WIFI to the centre HDD.
Once its setup & running, its a good unit, just dont expect to take it out the box & have it working easily.

At least one intolerable flaw., 2008-05-29 I bought one of these from Richer Sounds in London.
Good points: whilst the screen is of low-resolution it's not as harsh or blocky as many similar screens on budget machines. The player handles the vast majority of DivX files without complaint, though it refuses to play HD files.
Bad points: I initially found it unbelievable that this player can't correctly play 4:3 (non-widescreen) DVDs - it will only play them at 16:9. Philips support then actually confirmed the fact: so if you have any 4:3 DVDs they will only play stretched out across widescreen, with everyone and everything looking fat. Note that this problem does not affect DivX playback: the LCD aspect ratio of DivX is selected according to the TV ratio chosen in the player setup.
A secondary problem with this player is that whilst it is capable of showing DivX subtitles, several functions on the remote tend to lead to the subtitles vanishing. Only re-loading the disc recovers them, but fast-forwarding to the point you were at in the footage risks them vanishing again. Final irritation: when you start play, the time elapsed is always superimposed on the screen. You have to press a button on the remote twice to clear the timing from the screen - which may seem trivial but rapidly becomes tiresome.
Conclusion: this hardware could have made a potentially good budget machine, but here is coupled with with firmware which Philips should be ashamed of. The 4:3 DVD fault is so limiting that I suspect a case could be argued that the model is not fit for the purpose for which it is sold.

Philips Avent
- Ultra fast, easy to use
- Compact and lightweight
- Ideal for home and travel
- Large capacity
- Safe, easy handling
- Effective sterilization
Where would I be without it?!, 2008-10-24 I absolutely love this steriliser. There's no need to carry big buckets of water around (only uses 200ml at a time) so it's good if you're feeling weak, it takes about 5 minutes start to finish and contents stay sterile for up to 24 hours if you don't open it. You don't need to remember to buy sterilising tablets AND it goes in the dishwasher. Brilliant. I would never have a different one. It is quite big, but when I'm not using it I keep it open in the microwave so it doesn't get in the way.

very good value, 2008-11-18 really great product for the price. Its such a good looking thing, and has the capabilities to playback mp3s and wma which is a bonus. plug in any mp3 player or memeory stick and i works fine. Best function by far is the timer switch on function, which allows you to wake up to your mp3's, mw/fm radio or cd. Minor criticism however is that it takes some time to get used to setting it for timer, and that the mp3 sound quality is not so good, having to crank up the volume more than usual to hear it properly.
All in all, a great buy. Makes quite a change from my 25 yr old philips hi fi!

Philips
- Unique "soft touch" feel
- Complete DECT-phone package including a base and 2 handsets
- 15 minute recording time
- Stunning white backlit inverse display
- XHD sound
Cool features, but hard to justify the expense, 2007-10-17 I bought this high end model thinking that I would be getting a high end product - unfortunately not. After by trust old BT Synergy SMS died I thought I would opt for the top of the line phone. As much as I initially tried to convince myself that spending so much money on this phone set was worth it- I bought down to reality by the complaints of my family. Many months later, here are my thoughts:
1. First things first, it looks very good, for a DECT phone (it doesn't compare to a decent stylish mobile), the phone is larger than it seems in the pic.
2. The strong curved design of the unit means that pressing the curved keypad buttons is not that easy, you have to press hard to ensure that the number has been entered.
3.The user interface is decent, and overall the feature set is more than what a typical user would need - however the SMS was not set-up properly on the phone I had - a problem which after numerous calls to Phillips technical support and BT, still hasn't been resolved. The SIM number transfer was relatively painless, and it was fairly easy if a bit slow process to transfer the numbers between the two phones.
4. Call quality - I tried to convince myself that I was listening to top notch "HD" sound via the phone as advertised, but my unbiased family kept telling me it was poor - and I gradually came to the same conclusion. However I would say the speakerphone is loud and clear (more clear then placing the phone to your ear)
5. Phillips technical support - they were terrible, when called them about setting up the SMS it seems as if the support people on the other end hadn't even heard of the phone - all they could say was take it back to the retailer.
6. Finally perhaps the biggest complaint of my family after the sound quality was the battery life. The design of the base unit that each phone charged on means that even a brief brush will knock the phone over (the phone doesn't sit firmly on top). This added to the generally poor battery life meant that quite often the phone would battery charge indicator would almost always display empty or low.
