Good but not amazing!, 2008-12-31 Got the product recently through amazon, couple of things to say about it:
1) It really does do what it says on the box. If you are looking for a multimedia harddrive to back up your photos, play your music and video's then this does the job!
2) It looks preety smart as well, the photos on Amazon do not really do it justice.
More negative now...
3) higher range of video compatibilities would be great
4) You cannot turn it off properly by remote, on standbye the fan still works so it needs to be turned off via switch at back
5) Remote control looks a bit naff
6) No network port
I am happy with it but... part of me wonders whether there is something better out there!
3)

Does what it says on the tin and more !, 2008-08-07 After reading mixed reviews about this item I decided to go ahead and purchase one, and what a pleasant surprise.
I was expecting a dreadfull install, firmware updates, fiddling and tweaking to get it to work, after reading other experiences. Not a hint of that.
Box arrived on the date expected, I received a retail box, with:
- the unit itself, power adapter, Tv out cables ( red, white, green, Coax cable, to connect to a Dolby stereo - thou you get the sound through Tv speakers anyway, instructions - ok, these were a bit rubbish, mini -cd with drivers and FAt32 format utility, remote control with battery, unit holder.
Installation was a breeze: plug in the power, plug in USb cable, done. Unit showed straigh away in Windows ( using XP SP2), and was allready formatted with Fat32. I did a quick format for NTFS, just so I can use larger files ( bigger than 4GB ) . Then I copy about 100GB , worth of movies, music and pictures in 1 1/2 H , made a few folders, done.
Connecting to TV is easy, via the the 3 cables (red, white, yellow), select the right input with TV remote, and pronto, a nice menu showing : Photo Movies Music File. Went straight to file and all my folders there neatly showed there.
Movie Quality is GREAT. I used Divx ones, DVD mpg, etc, on a HD TV. I can honestly say the movie quality is same as the one getting from SKy digital (not HD :) )
Picture quality is good as well, same for the music. You get an equalizer, which is quite usefull.
Now I read review about the long time it took to search via the Video, Music , Photo menu, I tried that as well, and with about 70 movies (60 GB) took about 3 sec. !!! More than decent.
On top of this you get Card reader, another USB input, VGA output, in case you just want to use it with a monitor (no VGA cable), remote, etc.
Unit gets a bit WARM, not hot, and this was without the holder, which keeps it vertically.
Higly recommended at this price.
