fax software problems , 2008-01-01
I bought this fax modem to use on my new Dell computer with Widows Vista Home Basic 32BIT. I followed all the instructions. It was recognized by Windows Vista as a modem. I then followed the instructions and installed its fax software called FaxTalk Communicator. But I was unable to send faxes. whenever I tried to send one a message came up: 'This print operation requires that fax talk Call Control is running'.

I contacted Company Technical Support and followed all their instructions. I also uninstalled and reinstalled all software again and again and still got same problems!
Strangelly enough I was getting messages offering me to upgrade for better FaxTalk Communicator software and pay for that of course!

I bought it for the porpuse of using it to send and receive faxes but so far it has been useless for me.

I was hoping the Company would offer an alternative fax software to use but it was not the case.

I tried to find fax software that is compatible with Windows Vista online but it would cost money. why should I pay more if the fax software is supposed to be part of item I bought!

I believe Company should look into the matter and offer a wider range of better fax tools.

I thought i should share my experience online as I could not see any feedback about this fax modem before buying it.

This product is good value for the money. Installation of a hard disk is a simple matter of unscrewing the knurled casing screws (good idea not to have screws not requiring a screwdriver), lifting the metallic cover, connecting the leads and fixing the HDD to the underside using the couple of supplied knurled screws.

I purchased two units and the fans on both were noisy. I took both out, removed the stickers on the spindle ends and spray them liberally with WD40. This stopped the grating noise that was present out of the box. The fan is still audible at a reasonably acceptable background noise and could be easily disconnected if it became annoying. The long term effect of no fan on the hard disk's life would probably be minimal.

Ideal if you have a spare hard disk or two that you want to use as an external HDD or need to access data on an old disk . Swapping out is not difficult.

Alternatively think of just getting an IDE adaptor kit, if you don't need a permanent solution, or if you don't have an existing HDD, buy something like a LaCie external hard disk drive, which I have found to be good and quiet (no fan!).

Memory foam is just a soft "squidgy" foam. It squashes easily at pressure points and provides some, but not exceptional, cushioning there. At other points it just fills the space between the foot and the shoe without providing support. It is little more than a gimmicky product; no better than any other (cheaper) foam insoles and not anywhere near as good as sorbothane. Will be fair value when the product reaches the pound shops at 2 pairs for £1. ADDED 22/03/2008. I've seen them in the pound shops. Wish I hadn't wasted my money!
