Initial impressions, this is a great little drive. It is compact, really fast and shock resistant. It is pre-formatted to FAT32 standards which is fine unless you want to transfer files larger than 4GB as FAT32 does not support this. I did reformat to NTFS, that took a while but all work just perfect. It has Fujitsu driver and made in Japan (not PRC). Apparently the driver is 280GB of free space plus it shows that about 40GB are already in use, so I assume it is either 280 or 320GB, but the package says it is 300GB. There is a light indicates disk operation and adds to the visual impact of the drive. Excellent first impressions and good value for money, very happy with this product.

Just upgraded to this model from a previous Buffalo Drive and couldn't be happier, the transfer rate is quicker than anything else I have used, totally powered by the USB cable so no bulky power supply, shock proof and all for under £100. I especially like the new cable tidy they include as it is such a pain trying to find the cable in a bag to connect the drive when you are on an airplane, with this drive the cable is strung round the drive and never gets lost. Overall i'd rate this as the best value for money and best performing portable drive I have seen.

Bargain backup drive, 2008-05-23
I've only just installed this drive on my Vista PC. You will need to install the dotnet framework version 1.1 and the Service Pack 1 update to get the supplied backup software working. But that's all free from Microsoft so I can't really mark it down for that.

I have not tried out the "turbo" stuff yet - I'm inherently skeptical of badges like that. I subscribe to the theory "If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is". And besides, that's not why I bought this drive.

What I wanted was a portable drive with no external power supply and software that's easy to use. On all counts this package scores highly. And Amazon scores bonus points for undercutting the competition by over a tenner, which all adds up to making this a bargain!

There is an additional USB lead that appears to provide extra power if needed. Personally I do not need it, which is good. The data lead tidies away very neatly by wrapping around the drive unit. Having another cable hanging loose would have been a bit of a disappointment.

Lastly I recommend ignoring the Case Logic pouch that is advertised. I checked the measurements and the pouch looks way too large for this drive.

In short this is a very good drive at a competitive price. Two thumbs up!

I recently purchased this 320GB Ministation and boy was I blown away, the data transfer is far quicker than anything I've used previously, compact and the case is really shockproof. I should know my son decided to throw it down the stairs 2 days after I got it. Plugged it in and it still worked.

Really Satisifed.

Very good product for a home user, 2009-01-04
Decided to make the purchase after taking a long hard look at the market, and I am very pleased with it.

It's way smaller than I imagined, and very quiet in operation. The 1TB drive space is much bigger than I need, but as the years go by, I'm always finding new excuses to fill drive space... mainly because I hoard downloads.

Super easy setup, and software included is not bad. I'm using it on a home network and plan to open up the full software package to allow other family members to be able to share over the net. It has an easy to use web interface for admin duties, and isn't too technical. User interface is well laid out, and all the setting changes are where you might expect them to be.

It might be a little pricey for some people, but I'm looking at it as a long term investment. I'm often working away from home, and like the fact that I can access my media from anywhere. To be honest, there's loads more an experienced user will get from one of these, but I'm happy with what I bought it for.

My only warning would be not to fiddle too much with the settings. Of course, I did and found myself having to wind-back and reinstall a few features before it worked the way I wanted, but I suppose that's the same with anything of this nature. So, if you do decide to get one of these, just follow the setup instructions and don't go crazy trying to work out what it does before reading the manual.

Overall, I'm very happy with this product, and I'm sure I'll get loads of use from it over the next few years.

I owned the old version of this in a 250GB but had filled it up so was pleasantly suprised to see that they had updated the look of the product, looks like my PS3 however that really wasn't that important, the thing which grabbed me was the power usage, 75% less than a standard drive they use some new fangled technology which allows the drive to go into a park mode when not searching for information which means it is not running burning my cash. Also pleased to see that they included free back up software and encryption to give an element off added value. From a technical point of view the transfer rates are excellent, I transfered the contents of my Laptops hardrive 80GB in under an hour using a standard USB cable from the box. Really please I stuck with Buffalo.

Excellent Drive, 2008-12-29
This is an excellent drive for the money. The drive is very compact, silent and does not get hot. The auto power saving function is excellent. Another reviewer said that the power saving software was not on the drive itself but I beleive it is as I have this drive connected to my XBox 360 and the drive switches on and off automatically in conjuction with the XBox which is a massive benefit as I don't have to remember to switch it off manually.
